The Modern Sprinkler Corporation was established in 1932 by Martin Gelber to fill a need in a growing, niche industry in New York - the fire sprinkler industry. Gelber also owned Peerless Automatic Sprinkler, the parent, installation arm of the conglomerate, and started Modern out of need to service his installation customers.
Operating primarily in New York's five boroughs for over 4 decades, Modern Sprinkler was acquired by the ABCO Automatic Sprinkler Corporation in 1972, where it became part of the newly formed ABCO Peerless Sprinkler Corporation host of families.

In conjunction with local directives including, but not limited to, the New York City Fire Code, the New York State Uniform Building Code, the New Jersey State Uniform Building Code, the Nassau County Fire Prevention Ordinance and others, owners are responsible for the inspection, testing and maintenance of the fire protection systems installed within their premises.

William G. Bowe founded the ABCO Automatic Sprinkler Company in 1958 with his father in law, Anthony Robillotta, while working as a sprinkler fitter after returning from his service in the Korean War. A graduate of Manhattan College's School of Business in 1951, Bill saw an opportunity to be a part of a growing market and closed ABCO's first contract on his 30th birthday.
ABCO Peerless Sprinkler Corporation, the leading company in the ABCO Peerless family, was established in 1958 by William Bowe under the name ABCO Automatic Sprinkler. Throughout the years, the ABCO Peerless family has grown and changed, but ABCO Peerless Sprinkler has always been the design and installation company of the group.
