For 47 years our family business has supplied WNC with high quality, low cost plants. We grow more than 90% of our plants from start to finish on site. Each spring, we offer over 1,500 varieties of potted perennials and annuals, including bedding plants and hanging baskets, no-spray edibles, natives, succulents, houseplants, aquatics, shrubs and trees.
We also provide a range of beautiful combos, pottery, garden art, and select soil amendments. Painters is a first-come-first-serve shopping experience; we unfortunately aren't able to accommodate pre-orders and do not have a delivery or landscaping service.

Services
We have a barrier at the checkout counter and we have a hands-free system available if you'd prefer. Please do not visit our premises if you or anyone in your household is showing signs of illness, whether you are vaccinated or not.
We feel that Painters is a pretty safe environment, as our shopping areas are either outdoors or in greenhouses with vents, doors and fans, but we still strongly urge those of all ages who have not been vaccinated to continue to wear masks for their own safety, as well as that of other unvaccinated customers, staff, immunocompromised individuals & children.

If you would like some guidance when planning your gardens, we have created categorized lists of many of our plants to make your planning & purchasing easier. A separate list has been made for deer resistant plants as it is one of the most commonly requested.

Had a tough time deciding what plants to buy as they all looked lovely. Because they didn't have three plants I was looking for specifically, I picked others and got more than planned. That is not a bad thing. When it comes to summertime plants, more is preferred at my house 🏡! Helpful workers and so very knowledgeable! Look forward to another visit in a week or two when the caladiums are brought out from the greenhouses.

Beautiful healthy plants and great prices. Knowledgeable staff. If the person you ask does not know they will call someone who does. Often that be person will come to you and offer to accompany you as you shop. But never any pressure to make a purchase. The webb site has a great deal of useful information and links. It alone is worth checking out.

It would be so easy to spend hundreds of dollars here. They have so many plants, trees, and flowers that i would love to have. Everyone was nice and helpful. Face masks are required which was nice and they separated the carts sanitized and used. They have public bathrooms too. I will be going back for more in a month or two when more plants are ready.

Painters Greenhouse in Old Fort is my go-to place for herbs, perennials, annuals and shrubs. They have an awesome variety of native plants, pollinator-friendly plants, and hanging flower/plant baskets, too. They're open beginning in March through the end of June and I will typically make about 4 or 5 or more trips per season (you can only fit so much in one vehicle!) and I am never disappointed. Painters is great for a quick trip to pick up a hanging fern or a few herbs, or to stock up on several flats of plants and containers of shrubs for a new garden.
