The original part of the house was built in the depression on land that once belonged to my great grand-parents, John Patrick Autrey and Harriet Gibbs Autrey. It was built for my aunt and uncle, Mary and Roy Autrey. The cabin was built by Uncle Roy's three brothers, one of which was my dad, Gene Autrey.
The Cabin at the Swinging Bridge has 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, a full country kitchen and family room inside the cabin as well as a screened porch and covered front deck outside. Inside the kitchen you'll find a pass-thru bar, range, refrigerator/freezer w/icemaker, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, and of course the sink with a continuous supply of fresh, mountain well water.
The Cabin at the Swinging Bridge is located within 5-10 minutes of Mount Mitchell Golf & Country Club, as well as Mount Mitchell State Park. That puts golf and some amazing views and hiking trails all within a few minutes from your stay. For those unaware, Mount Mitchell is the highest elevation east of the Mississippi River!

Quiet, Rustic, Nothing fancy, but if you want to get away, this place is great! No TV and phone service depends on your carrier... ATT does not work here, so just plan for that in your stay. You can get service if you drive about 15 miles. I think you are ok if you have Verizon or Sprint. Other than that it is definitely a good place to connect with nature and pull away from technology!!

I chose this location for a stress-free weekend away, and was sorely disappointed. Only after arriving did our host, Ron, decide to inform us that the "cabin" has an unmanaged rodent infestation. We found feces in every corner of every room. The whole place also stinks of mold and mildew. The rope bridge has been in a state of disrepair for some time and is unsafe to use. Traffic can be heard from the front porch, and we were "asked" to not lock the extirior doors because Ron the owner has lost the keys. Ron also lives less than 50 yards from this structure in his own house, so the setting is hardly
