Paul helped me quickly identify the issue, which is the turbocharger. And he also worked with my warranty company, it's worth calling out this is a 3rd party warranty company and they are not the easiest to work with, yet Paul made it work and knocked off more than $3000 off my bill, he also fixed water tank for me while he was replacing the turbo charger.

I'm not saying "shady," but I walked away from my experience feeling quite taken advantage of. Here's my experience...
My 2001 VW Jetta failed its SMOG test so I took it to Paul @ Germany's Best. At the outset, he suggested he fix the common fuel trim sensor and get it smogged for me. I told him that I get a free SMOG test from the place where it failed, so we agreed he wouldn't do that.
I get a call a few hours later and Paul said "I made an executive decision. I cleaned the sensor (did not replace) which cleared the check engine light and I took it to get

I knew a guy originally involved in starting this business, and that colored my judgment (in a good way) about deciding to bringing my car in here many years later.
For the first appointment, they were only able to spend a little time with the car, and came up with what later turned out to be a misleading diagnosis. Paul is a genius. I'd had persistent troubles with how my Vanagon was running that other mechanics hadn't been able to fix. I was driving a vehicle that I couldn't count on and was thinking I'd have to sell it at a big loss and get another van. Paul took his time, spent the time he needed to diagnose it and solved the problem for a very reasonable price. The van now runs better than it ever has, and I'm eternally grateful. I recommend him highly for his experience and how easy and enjoyable he is to work with.

Paul and his team are excellent. Was in a pinch to get some emergency electrical work done and he took the time to analyze properly, rather than accepting what a different shop told me was the issue. Turned it around in a day and saved me quite a bit of money by comparison. Paul then recommended some needed (unbeknownst to me) extensive alignment work - resulting in a radically smoother ride and vastly improved handling on my 2010 S5...done at a very fair price.

Paul did great work on a 1979 VW Super Beetle recently. Repaired leaking gas tank reliably and quickly. When done, he smelled some gas odors and took the time to go back in and smoke test his work. I appreciate the diligence and completeness on something as risky.
I would be very confident taking my car back in the future.

I just got a bmw I wanted it to be inspected and I received the run around. First was told to come in on a Monday and when I did I was told to come in another day again and he’d call me with the information after he got his mechanics in after he decided to take my vin number so I wait to receive no phone call and can’t help but think he turned down my services because of his own personal issues! I don’t recommend any person of color to take your vehicle to this man I wouldn’t trust his intentions

We are so happy to have found Paul and his team at Germany's Best! We have been working on mom's car for over a year...... 8 months with another shop, and WAY too much money invested. We took the car to Paul in September, asking him to give it the once over, with no timeline set. He reviewed things and found that some items needed to be replaced again, and that some of the replaced items were not the problem we'd been having (2 fuel pumps instead of the relay). I made a Yelp account just to add this review. My car broke down and I needed someone that can work on german cars. Germany's Best was super attentive. Paul scheduled a meeting with me right away and he got my car in tip top shape within a week! Just FYI my car had electrical issues and since then she has been running smooth. I am so grateful that I found this shop for my 2012 Mercedes Benz. Paul is such a nice person and scheduled my appointment quickly and efficiently. My mother had her gray market Mercedes 280 serviced here and I had my E30 BMW m3 serviced here. These people were extremely good at what they do and their shop was spotless.
The work was not as expensive as the dealer and the employees were very nice and helpful. I would always rather support the small business than the faceless corporation. Give these guys a chance, especially if you have older German cars that may need special attention.

It's such a relief when you find an honest mechanic. I took my 2001 530i with 122K miles on her. Worn suspension blues. Paul diagnosed her and deemed one repair a 911, and the others could be spread over a little time. This is where you go for your German auto needs. Plus there's nice car eye candy in the shop.

What a great experience I had there. I have a Mini Cooper and for years I took my car to the Mini Services. When my warranty expired and Mini started charging me ridiculous prices to fix anything on my car I found Germany's Best. For some oil leak problem Germany's Best literally charged me HALF of the price of Mini's quote. Their service was quick and well done, plus Paul, the owner is a very nice guy!

Called this shop and explained to Paul what's happening with my 2009 Audi. He said to bring it in the next morning and he'll take a look at it. They ran some tests and concluded it was something going on with the transmission. He gave me 2 options which I wasn't too thrilled about because of costs. I told him that I would just come pick up the car and maybe try to figure it out, maybe try to sell. I wish I had discovered this auto service shop years ago! The downtown Mercedes dealership charged me what turns out to be an outrageously inflated price for repairs of my CLK350 which prompted me to look elsewhere. Paul was friendly, thorough (took the car for a test drive on the freeway!), and prompt. I believe his charges were reasonable and fair.

Very thorough work. The mechanics here are very knowledgeable and friendly. And most importantly, they really care about your car! Which is exactly what you want in a mechanic. I brought my car with a belt tensioner issue and they changed my spark plugs and a coil without charging me for the labor--Paul just wanted to see my car running smoothly. Will be bringing my car back here.

I have been taking my cars to Paul and Germany's Best for a number of years now. I recently brought my BMW 535 in and what i thought was a minor oil pan leak proved to be a much bigger issue. Not only did Paul and his team solve the problems they were able to get it fixed and back to me in record time. Literally it feels like I am driving a new car not one with 100k and 11 years old. I was kept up every step of the way and I am so pleased with their work. I highly recommend the team at Germany's Best! Thanks Paul!!

My second, five star review! We had trouble getting my very low mileage, but 10 year VW Tourag to smog. Paul is the doctor for German cars! He took it step by step, with his recommendations. The bottom line is that after several days, because of his recommendations that he completed, we got it to pass smog! Do you know what this means for me? I can drive my car, that I DID NOT want to give up, for two more years. Paul saved me from having to buy a new car! And HE WOULDN'T GIVE UP. That's what really kept us going. He kept telling us, "I'M NOT GIVING UP ON THIS ISSUE!" We really appreciated that

I've lived in the area and have frequented the Rockridge corridor for years, but never noticed Germany's Best until a week or two ago and I just happened to have to replace my EGT Sensor to deal with a Check-Engine light to pass my smog test.
Paul was able to schedule me quickly and the work was reasonably priced. The work ened up slightly more than the estimate, but Paul called to make sure I was OK with it.
Fixed my Check-Engine light and I got my car smogged AOK. Good to know that I have them so close to home.
