Created in 1934 by a group of music-loving, summer residents of the Berkshires, the Tanglewood Music Festival was originally intended to be a one-time series of three outdoor concerts performed at Interlaken. However, the concerts were so successful that the promoters decided to make the festival an annual summer event and with the donation by the Tappan Family of their large estate, the Tanglewood Music Festival was born.
