Services
We're John and Sherrie Porth, the owners of Loon Point Resort. Our story began in the fall of 2008 when we took a fishing trip 'up north'. It was a breath of fresh air (literally) to be isolated from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. The air was crisp and fresh with a hint of pine, the waters were pristine, eagles soared overhead, the loons would let out their call and the quietness of the north woods was enough to soothe the soul.
CABIN CARE - The wellness of our guests is very important to us! We have always been very particular in providing clean cabins for our guests. That is just standard practice for us as it should be for all hospitality businesses. Therefore, we go above and beyond in cleaning & sanitizing our cabins.
THE LAKE: Wasson Lake is a 438-acre spring-fed lake offering 17 feet of water clarity. With a depth of 67 feet and numerous bays, the lake offers great fishing structures. The shoreline has many submerged points surrounded by deep water, down timber, and large areas of coontail, cabbageweed, and wild rice.
Loon Point Resort is located north of Grand Rapids, MN in the George Washington State Forest where you have hundreds of acres of forest roads and designated ATV trails to ride. You can hit the trails right from your cabin and access restaurants, convenience stores, and bars right from the trails - trails, lodging, gas, food, drinks, and fun - all got 'em all!
In the 1880s, William T. Joyce came to the area and started buying land and timber. The area was logged in the early 1900s and the logs were floated out through the chain of lakes to the prairie river and then to the Mississippi River. About 1918, the heir to the family fortune originating in lumber taken from northern Minnesota, David Joyce of Chicago, surveyed the area around Trout Lake with the intention of building a hunting camp.

Top notch, quiet resort. Cabins are clean, well kept, many lake front cabins. Grills, firepits, beach area with all the “quiet” toys. Owners are hands on, welcoming and accommodating. All of this on a private lake! It is an incredible resort! You’ll be back again. We met two families who have been coming here yearly for 40 years!

First timers to loon point and it won't be our last. Sherrie and John are great owners and keep the place spotless. If you need anything they can help. The cabins are great and the fishing was good. Park your boat by your cabin and that's nice. Listen to the loons and look at the lake all day long makes it a great place. Thank you Sherrie and John for a very nice vacation.

Wow. Thank you so much for a great trip. We were a group of seven guys that usually go fishing in Canada but obviously couldn’t this year. I wish we would have found you last year. If you are serious about fishing, this is a Great Lake to go to. Nothing like the public lakes that see a lot of pressure and people keep everything they catch. We spent a week on this lake and did not see it all. If you take your time picking apart the cover and find the right pattern, you will catch a lot of fish.
Cabin was great. Very clean with everything you need. I took my college age son and he had a blast

Another fantastic stay.
Wife and I booked a trip for Memorial Day weekend with our five kids and grandma. Everything was great (as expected!). Cooked a little less, rode the pontoon a lot more, kids enjoyed the water even though it was more than brisk by 'old people' standards.
We're a busy family in the summer, so we may have to make Memorial Day stays our tradition. A great way to kick off summer!

A beautiful resort on a beautiful lake. We stayed in Jack Pine cabin. The cabin was very clean - the cleanest place we've ever stayed. Jack Pine has a great view of the lake and very friendly chipmunks :-), we enjoyed feeding them. Sherrie is a super nice host, friendly and east to talk with.
Overall, a beautiful resort with friendly hosts. We will plan a trip here again!!

This was our first visit to Loon Point. We had a wonderful time and the fishing was really good! The cabin we had was very nice and clean and we met some really nice people. If I had to say one thing negative, it would be that it felt very congested in where the cabins are. The basketball hoop was right where we parked our vehicle...we thought it should have been over by the volleyball net. Otherwise, we plan to go back and stay again for sure!!

Located just north of Grand Rapuds, Loon Point Resort is a perfect representation of Northern Minnesota beauty. The lake is decent size at over 400 acres and with no public access, pretty quiet. Fishing is always good especially pike and large mouth bass and crappie. Variety of cabins to suit each guest are clean and welcoming. The Porth's are excellent hosts and it is obvious, they love what they do. Many other lakes in the area to explore 30 minutes or less away. Very kid friendly.

We have been going to Loon Point Resort for several years, what a great place. Several of the old cabins replaced with new log cabins, with the modern comforts of home. Fishing still as great as ever, watching the eagles, the deer the loons and feeding the chipmunks all add to the relaxing time. John and Sherrie are there for anything you need, they make your stay easy. So skip the crowd, the hot and muggy beach, go north to low or no humidity and take someone fishing or just relax .
