Most people think that estate planning is only concerned with the distribution of assets after a person passes away. This is certainly part of it, but a proper estate plan provides a number of benefits while you are still alive and well. Let's look at what estate planning can help you accomplish and why everyone needs a plan of his or her own.
One of the most common and versatile trust planning tools is a Revocable Living Trust. A Revocable Living Trust (RLT) is an agreement with three parties: the Trust-makers (usually you and your spouse if married), the Trustees or Trust Managers (who may also be you), and the Trust Beneficiaries (you may even be the beneficiaries during your lifetime).
It's important to create your will whether times are simple or challenging. When you pass, the state of California will be able to decide who gets your property and raises your children if you do not have a will in place. At Santa Barbara Estate Planning and Elder Law, our team has the knowledge and experience you need to draft a will that will protect your assets and provide for your loved ones.
It seems like before we know it, our kids are grown up. As they enter adulthood, our own parents also begin a new phase in life. One of the greatest blessings we have is that our loved ones are now living longer, allowing us more priceless time and memories together. But with that comes great concern for those loved ones who may not have prepared financially to live through these extended years.

I was so thankful to have found Ms. Malis, and for her kind and professional guidance through this very emotional process of facing the dementia of my loved one, and the critical decisions I must now make. I plan to use her services as needed moving forward, and highly recommend her to anyone else facing this disease within their families.

Friendly, helpful, and knowledgable!
I contacted Santa Barbara Estate Planning & Elder Law to learn more about Medi-Cal planning through their website. I received a phone call within about 15 minutes of my inquiry to schedule a Zoom meeting with Julianna Malis.
As expected, I was very anxious about this phone call. Let's face it, planning for the eventual and inevitable long-term care for a parent is tough to contemplate. Thankfully, Julianna was very friendly and put me quickly at ease. She was extremely generous with her knowledge and has made this difficult time as stress-free as possible

It was a pleasure working with Julianna Malis and her paralegal Laura Milani. Both were very responsive to all our questions n a very timely manner. Julianna far surpassed any other attorney my husband and I have ever worked with. She is very knowledgeable about the field of elder law, compassionate and professional. She understands the nuances of a blended family and assisted us in navigating out family trust while answering our questions with expertise. I highly recommend SB Estate Planning and Elder Law to meet the needs of those looking to create a family trust. Thank you Julianna and Laura

After the initial shock of my life partner’s massive stroke and the subsequent need to ensure that the daunting and ongoing financial burden of skilled nursing costs be met, I can now rest easy knowing the cost of facility care will be covered going forward, with the combination of Medicare A, B and D, and Medi-Cal as providers. It would have been an impossible task for me to navigate without the skillful and invaluable assistance of estate planning and elder law attorney Julianna Malis. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I contacted Julianna 2 years ago to help with my aunt’s estate planning and will. I couldn’t be happier that I did. Julianna is thorough, kind and understanding. She answered every question, always responds quickly with emails and calls, and most importantly has my aunt’s complete confidence. You won’t find a better estate planning and elder law attorney than Julianna Malis.

We worked with Santa Barbara Estate Planning & Elder Law when my father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers. He was only 65 and it was the most difficult time of our lives, feeling completely lost and uprooted. Luckily, Julianna Malis was there to help us, one step at a time, to plan and navigate this unknown. We had no idea all of our trust documents were not only outdated, but lacked legality and protection on so many levels. She was there to put together a new Trust, help manage our finances, and get my father into a specialized care facility with ease and professionalism. She took the
