American Committee For Shaare
Shaare Zedek Medical Center has played an important role in the life of the city and its unique population for nearly 112 years. Shaare Zedek was the first large Hospital to be located in the western portion of Jerusalem and is today the city's fastest growing medical center.

In 1979, thanks to the vision of Director-General David Maier, it moved to its present location (the original building still stands and houses the Israel Broadcasting Authority).Named after the inspiring biblical term "Gates of Righteousness, " Shaare Zedek has responded to the needs of Jerusalem's uniquely diverse population from its very first day of operation, treating patients of every race, religion and nationality.
Services
The American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem provides financial support to fund services, capital projects, research and the purchase of equipment for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Founded in 1902, Shaare Zedek has been known for more than a century as the Hospital with a Heart.
At Shaare Zedek Medical Center we have many exceptional departments that are renowned throughout Jerusalem, Israel and in some cases worldwide. Below is a short description of some of these "Centers of Excellence" and the amazing accomplishments they are achieving daily. According to statistics, heart disease is the leading cause of premature death and disability in Israel.
Bikur Cholim Hospital in downtown Jerusalem, established nearly 190 years ago in the Old City of Jerusalem, was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and about to close in 2012. With Jerusalem poised to lose its downtown hospital, the Israeli government approached Shaare Zedek's leadership and asked them to submit a bid for taking over Bikur Cholim.
Since 1902, Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem has been providing top-level medical care for the people of Jerusalem, responding to the needs of the city's uniquely diverse population. Many years ago, a particularly appreciative patient referred to Shaare Zedek as "The Hospital with a Heart, " and this endearing term has been adopted by many of the thousands of patients who enter through our doors each year.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem receives no financial support from the Israeli government. It relies primarily on the generosity of donors to the American Committee for Shaare Zedek and other friends around the world to fund and carry out research, upgrade vital equipment and continuously maintain and further expand its facilities.
