Services
Choosing Thunderbird means becoming part of our family, rich in tradition and the spirit of friendship. When you join us, your camper will find a sense of belonging and forever have a home away from home. Nature is our playground. Situated in the Northwoods of Minnesota not far from the Headwaters of the Mississippi, Thunderbird's 700 acres and over two miles of pristine shoreline provide a prime location for adventure and growth.
Each day, campers choose three or four activities from our 30 offerings. A few times each week, we have an optional "bonus period" during which campers can choose to hang out in the cabin or attend a favorite activity. At Thunderbird the options are limitless! We believe that camp is a great place to learn independence and decision-making, so we put kids in charge of their own daily schedule.
You can do it all at camp. If you're old enough to attend camp, you're old enough to participate in over 30 unique and fun activities. Want your own personal bowl for your morning cereal? Make one at pottery! We will teach you proper techniques in molding clay, and how to use the tools you need to make your creation perfect, whatever it may be.
Is offering its explore and plan tests for the last time what can i do to entertain my dogs while i do homework this school year as it gears up to debut a new suite of exams for grades 3-11 that are aimed at capturing a big chunk of the common-standards testing market. Each week, campers and staff look forward to an all-camp, high-energy theme day called Specialty Day.
Our optional wilderness program's inception in 1946 is still the foundation of today's programming. These unparalleled opportunities offer new and exciting experiences for beginners and seasoned campers alike. For the New to Camping, don't worry, we start with the basics.

Before departing on an overnight trip, campers learn the skills they need to be safe and comfortable while they're away, things like how to set up a tent, cook a meal, and roast a marshmallow over a campfire. For the Apprehensive a "sleep under" for the overnight allows the camper to participate worry-free in all the fun up until bedtime.

Beautiful setting, compassionate people and a place to truly be yourself. Rustic, but that makes you appreciate it more. Enjoy the loon call, eagles and chipmunks. Happy to return anytime (except I expect the winter is pretty different!)

The staff can be quite rude and the entire area is often filled with pests like ticks as well as leeches in the only swim area. Most cabins have no air conditioning.

I went to camp Thunderbird ever summer from age 8 until I was in my 20s. I started as a camper and then became a counselor and then the sailing specialist. My best memories were at this camp. I attribute many of my best traits to spending my summers here.
