Ceres Bakery
Ceres Bakery has been baking for Portsmouth since 1980. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is speedy and friendly, and the eclectic staff keeps it a cheerful and informal place to eat. The food is always made from scratch right here. The delicious lunches are generous, reasonably-priced, and change daily.

We also have a wonderful variety of home-made baked goods. In fact, we do it every day. Check out our weekly schedule as well as our Specialty Breads that appear as the "baker's choice" on the regular schedule. If you give us a little advance warning, we can bake a loaf just for you. Ceres has fantastic baked deliciousness, and tasty lunch options at a relatively affordable price.

A very moist cake using freshly grated carrots and walnuts, filled with apricot preserves and iced with cream cheese icing. A rich, fine-crumbed chocolate cake iced with chocolate butter cream (though goes well with almost anything). A traditional pound cake flecked with lots of fresh lemon zest and soaked with lemon syrup and decorated with vanilla butter cream.

I love Ceres Bakery!! The lunch special is convenient, reasonably priced and always delicious. I love the variety. If the special isn't something I want, they also have quiches, soups, salads, and sandwiches - all great choices, you can't go wrong. I end up going here twice a week these days because it's the best lunch stop in town, especially for the price.
The baked goods, be they sweets or breads, are fantastic; I've tried something new every time and always been satisfied. The scones here are better than any other scone I've found in a bakery. On top of all of this, the cafe is very cute.

I enjoyed a rasberry croissant with their homade iced tea for breakfast and I enjoyed every bite. The iced tea has some herb in it I think it is mint so if you don't like herbal teas that may not be for you. The service was great and there was no wait you do have to wear a mask inside the store.

Popped in for some quick morning food since my friends and I woke up super hungry. Unlike usual, I had the energy this morning for an early go and the place looked really cute.

The egg wrap I had was fine but it wasn't as good for me as it was for my friends. They got the egg salad sandwiches and some pastries and they were super into it. I kinda just sat there waiting for them to finish but it was okay because they were clearly enjoying themselves so much and it makes me happy to see them happy.

Fortunately it didn't take too long and they left and went back to sleep and I was able

Super cute place! We had a blueberry/mango scone and a blueberry muffin. They were preparing fresh bread in the kitchen while we had our breakfast. Would definitely recommend the scone!

Tried this place for the first time today and we loved it! It's small and busy, but the employees were very friendly and everything moved fast. They have a huge selection of baked goods as well as menu items on the board. I love how they have a build your own sandwich with so many unique toppings! Half sandwich option is also great. We went with a turkey, bacon , lettuce, sprouts, pickled onion, cheddar, mayo, sandwich on white bread. It was delicious!! All the ingredients were plentiful and most importantly fresh. The bread was super soft and tasty. This is my new favorite sandwich spot!

Went for bread, $5 for a loaf of white. Was going to get a muffin too but it was $7.50 based on the sign. Not sure if that could be true. No Italian bread either that I could see. We ended up leaving because of the high prices, wound up at Tuscan Market and got everything we needed for much less. It's a nice Italian market and pastry shop.

This place is very cute and adorable and you can just tell that this place is very homey and everything is homemade and fresh everyday. The people are very nice and service is very personable and friendly. There's plenty of seating and a lot of pastry options both sweet and savory. They also have hot sandwiches available, coffee and tea and their bar where you get utensils and stuff even has croutons and sunflower seeds for you to take!! I tried the quiche and cinnamon coffee cake which were both good but didn't blow my mind. You get a very large piece of the coffee cake for the price

A friend recommended that this place had a great breakfast sandwich so I thought that I would swing by. The sandwich was so so for a breakfast sandwich. The croissants were great. Cashiers seem salty but it was early Sunday morning.

This place is ceres-ly good for a relaxed breakfast. I was vacationing in Portsmouth with my husband and anther couple. We have come here to refuel during both trips some years apart.
During this latest visit we came in at the very end of breakfast service but the guy at the front was nice enough to extend to us the last breakfast sandwiches. I liked mine with spinach and my hubby liked his with bacon. Our friends were put off a bit by the texture of the egg but I liked it and the fact that it was cut to the size and shape of the bread. Good coffee. Good eco friendly service and disposing. I&apos

Stopped into Ceres Bakery on my way out of town for a quick bite of breakfast to eat. I ended up going with a classic egg sandwich, on wheat bread, spinach, tomato and cheese. It was the perfect start to my morning. The wait staff was very friendly and patient as I quickly scanned the menu. It was very busy (looked to be a lot of locals as everyone seemed to know everyone) - my kind of restaurant!

Tasty chicken salad sandwich has leeks instead of onion, making for a sweeter flavor fest. Hot apple cider worked wonders on a cold March day.

Irish soda bread seemed like a black market commodity. Didn't get to try it because it wasn't on the menu. But that didn't stop the ordering line which had a number of folks picking up their unmarked paper bags of goodies.

Best of all -- there's a gas fireplace to heat your buns. Oh yeah!

We visited on a Saturday morning. I wanted to try the cardamom coffeecake but that wasn't available. So we got a blueberry scone and a blueberry muffin, each for $2.50. Both were good. Black coffee was strong. This is a cute little bakery and cafe.

Your one stop shop for freshly-baked pastries and bread, coffee and tea, and scrumptious breakfast and lunch - just make sure you have cash.

We get pastries here before our annual family boat ride, and they are always a big hit! The almond croissant and almond peach muffin are especially delicious, though we've enjoyed all their treats - and I do mean all, we buy for a big group. Each one is freshly-baked, and they have a wide selection of coffee cakes, scones, muffins, cookies, et cetera, often adjusted for the season. The baked goods come in very generous portions, and I think are fairly

This is your perfect lunch stop. Walk in order your sandwich, pick your bread, add your fave toppings and have it made to perfection!

The staff are all overly helpful and super nice, ask what their favorite is -- I have never once gotten the same answer.

Rotating art that is usually really good, fun outside chairs and delicious cookies to have for desert!

Ceres street has an amazing hometown feel, and excellent food to boot -- nothing is fake here, enjoy it a place like this seems to become more rare every day.
