For over thirty years, I have been helping people navigate these challenges and find more effective ways of coping with life's unexpected twists and turns. Therapy begins with my listening carefully and respectfully to your story. Understanding your history is crucial to our working together to find more effective solutions to your current challenges.

My training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and family systems theory helps me understand the ways you have made sense of yourself and your world, and how those familiar beliefs about yourself may be keeping you from living life as fully and joyfully as you can. I have training in a variety of therapeutic approaches and will use the methods and skills most appropriate for the problems you are currently experiencing.
Services
I am a graduate of the New Directions Writing and Critical Thinking program at the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis and a graduate of Spalding School of Creative and Professional Writing. I received my Master's degree at the University of Memphis in 1988 and have been providing individual, couples and family therapy in the Nashville Area since 1990.
At our initial session we will decide whether or not to begin our work together. If it appears that you may be better served by another therapist, I will help you by providing referrals. I use cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness techniques to help you manage your thoughts and feelings. Transitions like job loss, aging, menopause, relocating and career changes can be disorienting.
Therapy is a means for receiving the support you need. We have created a FAQ sheet for some of the most common questions about therapy, including what it entails, and what forms of therapy are offered. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Rigorous scientific methods and evaluation are being applied to the field of psychotherapy, and are establishing the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapies, as well as family systems therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy. In short, yes, psychotherapy, when provided by an experienced and competent psychotherapist is very effective in helping people function better in their daily lives.
When we have permission to let our imaginations come out from behind the buttresses of self-doubt, propriety, or fear, we will realize that we are wiser than we know, better than we feel and nobler than we realize. The Creative Writing Group is designed to provide an honest and nurturing community wherein writers of all skill levels can share their work, receive helpful feedback and hone their writing craft.
Consultation groups led by an experienced clinician provide rich opportunities for learning and professional support. Cynthia Ezell, LMFT offers Clinical Case Consultation with her colleague, Jamie Kyne, PhD for licensed psychotherapists who want to increase their competence by utilizing both instruction and group feedback.

I have known Cynthia Ezell for over 25 years, and have referred many patients to her during this time. She is highly skilled as both an individual and couples therapist. She is an extremely kind, thoughtful, and well informed psychotherapist. She actually trains and supervises other psychotherapists. We are fortunate to have her expertise in our community.
