From the start, Common Ground has broken new ground. In the late 1980s, community members came together to connect city residents to the natural world, grow healthy food in our community, and change the way we educate our children. This video shares some of their stories:.
Common Ground's founders - teachers, environmentalists, concerned citizens, philanthropists - envisioned programs that would use local parks to teach key ecological concepts and to connect youth to natural resources in their own communities. These founders believed in the power of place-based education and in the importance of food as a central environmental and social issue.

Last year, this harvest grew 3,000+ opportunities for kids and families to connect with the sources of their food; 51 paid jobs and credit-bearing internships for young people growing and sharing fresh, local food with the community; 1850+ meaningful learning opportunities for students at Common Ground High School; 75 seasonal farm shares for students, staff, and community members; and much more.
Common Ground's name says it simply: we're in this together. The environmental challenges facing our planet, and the educational challenges facing our community, are too large to face alone.
By working in partnership with like-minded individuals and organizations, we have a real chance of addressing these big challenges: making healthy food accessible to everyone in the community, closing the achievement gap, building a new generation of environmental leaders, re-building our connections to the natural world.

In the 2021-22 school year, Common Ground's school day begins at 8:00 each day and ends at 3:05, except on Wednesdays, when students are dismissed at 1:17. Periods 1-4 run in the mornings M/T/Th/Fri, and 5-8 in the afternoons on those days as well as all day on Wednesday. All classes are 67 minutes in length.
Green Jobs Corps connects young people with paid environmental jobs, career and leadership development opportunities, and the personal and academic supports they need to thrive. Corps members work at Common Ground at a number of community environmental organizations. For more than 75% of participants, Green Jobs Corps offers a first experience of paid work.

This is a review for their summer camp program. My two daughters have come every summer for 8 years and it is truly 5 stars! The camp staff are great with the kids. The kids come home dirty, tired, and educated & engaged. They hike, fish, cook, garden, they have animals at the school and they bring in Animal educators with more animals. The program is truly amazing. Before and after camp hour care is available but costs more $. I can truly say we've never had a bad summer here and it's a great campus.
