Stages Theatre
Crafting a season IS certainly a journey! It is a joy-filled process of thinking about all of YOU-creating a season that inspires imaginations while it entertains. As we were considering the books and stories to bring to life on stage for you, it became obvious that in EVERY show next season there is a journey of self-discovery for our characters.

Stages Theatre Company was founded in 1984 and has since grown to become the second-largest nonprofit theatre for young audiences in Minnesota. We believe that the arts are fundamental to child development and overall quality of life, and that every individual, regardless of economic circumstances, geography, or ability, should be able to enjoy the joy, wonder, and benefits of participation in the theatre arts.

I've taken my kids to dozens of shows here over the years, and we've had a lot of fun watching them. I personally enjoyed most of the shows, but they are usually geared toward younger kids, not too original, and usually quite silly. For $15 or so, it's a good deal.

Sometimes we've even seen more mature, out of the norm shows that they've put on in the side theater, those can be hit or miss, but again, my kids really liked them.

Stages Theatre is truly a gem! My dad used to take all the grandkids to shows when they were younger and it was the perfect way to get them all to fall in love with theater. Now my 4 kids have all been in productions at Stages and I cannot say enough about the positive experiences they have had. As an audience member, volunteer, and parent of kids in the show every experience I have had with Stages has been stellar!

We brought our four kids to their first musical here. We watched elf and it was fantastic!

My ten year old son leaned over in the middle of the play and said, "thanks for bringing me here, this is really good!'

It's a Really great place to take a family! Our kids are ages 5-12 and they all enjoyed it.

The actors are very talented. Every scene was entertaining, they had excellent sets, and very good songs!

The theatre isn't very big so any seat is a good one. They have booster seats for young kids.

The characters lineup outside after for a meet and greet after the show

"To be, or not to be. That is the question."

Stages Theatre offers wonderful opportunities to children of a wide variety of skill and back grounds.

So if you are unsure if your child should or should not act, try this place out.

They have a wonderful kids' acting summer camps, with one week long camps during the summer, where your child can try them out. They offer a wide variety of fun, interesting 'plays' firyour kids to participate in. But make sure you enroll EARLY (right when enrollment opens up) or many classes will be full.

Our daughter absolutely loved being

We love stages theatre! We love being able to introduce our son to theatre at a young age and he really enjoys going to plays. We have been to more expensive shows at the Children's Theatre, and while there is a difference in the production value of shows between Stages and the Children's Theatre, the shows at Stages have been great and the price is much more affordable! My son loves to meet the actors at the end of each show and they are so kind to the kids. We'll definitely be back for more shows!

This place is a gem! I took my daughter (5 years) to see Owl Moon. Yesterday, I took my daughter and son (2 years) to see Inch by Inch. IMPRESSIVE. I can’t compliment this theatre enough. Inch by Inch was geared towards 5 and under and it exceeded my expectations. Extremely interactive and personal. I can’t wait to take my children to more performances. Tickets are reasonable for the high quality performances, but there are also performances in which you pay what you can. They make effort to allow everyone the chance to access this amazing theatre and experience.

Love this theater. Shows are always entertaining and well done. I have loved bringing my daughter and niece and nephew here over the years. The cost is a little high for a one hour show but the $10 ticket deals make it more affordable and if you are in a military family they have $2 tickets available. Easy parking across the street in a free parking ramp.

So great! Fantastic live theatre for kids of all ages. The shows are the perfect length for even the wiggliest of all worms. Nobody bats an eye if you have a kiddo that makes noise (happy or upset). It's a true gem.

The theater is nice...staff is nice. The volunterrs are nice. We went to see Madagascar. The kids doing the play did a really good job. It was just the right length of time for my two small children. First time to the Stages Theater. I took my three year old with my friends and her four year old son to see Whoever You Are. The show was about 45 minutes and it was in the main stage. The theater seem small like a size of a small movie theater. We were in the middle section and seats were not as stadium elevated as it was hard to see over someone who is tall in front of you.

They had booster seats but not very stable in the seat since it was too wide and had no ridge outline for you to know which way it should face and it was a little too short still for our toddlers to see over the head of

I have been to several plays at Stages and have never been disappointed. There isn't a bad seat in the house and the quality of the performances are always consistently well done. They are extremely accommodating and allow young children to be included in a lap seating arrangements as well as boosters for those who are old enough to be seated alone. Better yet the pricing is extremely affordable. I highly recommend making this a regular outing with the family.

We've taken our young kids to several performances and each has been a positive experience for the full family. The shows have been well done and after each one there has been an opportunity to meet the entire cast which is always the highlight. There are no bad seats (We usually sit in the balcony) and the theater provides boosters to help kids keep their chairs folded down and to give them a little more height to see better.

Love this small theatre! We have seem many plays here and they are well done. They've allowed a single mom be able to expose her kids to a wonderful art that we may not otherwise been able to afford due to their "open door" program.

I saw one really bad production of Junie B Jones years ago so we stopped going to this theater. Then recently I was a chaperone with a school trip and we saw a musical of Junie B Jones and it was awesome! So maybe will start going again...it's a beautiful facility, great for school groups.

This is a gem in downtown Hopkins. Several plays through the year, all kid friendly. The staff is friendly and they host a free block party the day of the first play each season.

Stages is flat out the best family theater in the Twin Cities. You will also want to check out the Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis (top notch, top price) and Steppingstone Theater in St Paul (great fun, good value).

Stages is fun for any age, but if your pre-school or elementary school has not taken a field trip to Stages, then it's time you had a talk with the teacher and schedule a field trip to the theater.

The actors are mostly kids, and yes, they can act. The costumes are as professional as you could want, and allow for you to really get into the performance. One neat

We've taken the kiddos to see a couple different plays now. I was quite impressed at the creative use of props in the show. The acting was great and told the story that they wanted to get across. They deviate from traditional storylines that work to entertain kids and adults alike, so it's not the same old story. The best part is you get to meet the actors after the show. That's huge for a kid. They loved it!

My kid saw her first live theater performance at Stages just after her second birthday and over the last six years, I've seen many many performances. Some shows have been brilliant, others have been just ok. But for $12-$15 (and free for under two!) Stages is giving very solid entertainment. There's no snack bar or gift shop, to which I say THANK YOU.

We've also attended their summer street fair -- super fun!

Alas, I'm not the biggest fan of their preschool classes. Oh, I'd still recommend them, but I wouldn't *highly* recommend them.

Did you know Hopkins has
