Services
My study of calligraphy began in 2003 as a way for me to transition into my role as a stay-at-home mom. I have always been interested in graphic design and producing visual representations of the written word. This inspiration has come to fruition through study with renowned calligraphers Timothy Botts, Reggie Ezelle, Pat Blair, Terry Quentrill, Jacqueline Sullivan, and Peter Thornton, among others.
Designs by Starla consists of 4 components: Calligraphy, Engraving, Design Collection and Teaching. At Designs by Starla, we practice the ancient art of calligraphy, creating original designs with the unique character of being penned by hand. We combine calligraphy with a hand engraving tool in order to cut desired designs or personalization into an object of virtually any shape or size.

The art of Calligraphy, i.e. the highly decorative recording of words, goes back centuries to the illuminated documents painstakingly created by hand by religious monks and other clerics.

Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created through a very specific method. They are created from an ensemble of simple, structured patterns called tangles on a 3.5-inch (89 mm) square paper tile. Zentangles are not only exquisitely beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create.

Starla is friendly and kind. She has a home office where she does her artistic work. From engravings to calligraphy. We inquired about a few engravings and she was able to do them within 1 hour. She gives accurate estimated times for her work.
