In 1904, after the devastating Galveston hurricane of 1900 and a serious smallpox epidemic, 12 prominent citizens founded Family Houston to serve as a flexible social service agency ready to quickly offer help to those in need. To raise funds, the group organized a parade and a carnival that featured electric lights, Professor Tom Herd's dog and pony show, and U-No the fire dancer.

I've been a proud Family Houston employee for two years. I love getting to make a difference in our community! I'm constantly blown away by the talent of our counselors, case managers and financial coaches. Not only is Family Houston a great place to work but they provide an essential service for all Houstonians.

I have been receiving counseling services from here for a couple of years now. First for my son and now for me. Our therapist, Jorge, is amazing. He is very professional and smart. He really cares and explains everything so well. He takes notes so that every time we meet, he knows exactly where we are. It's been a true blessing for me. He also helped my son to learn how to deal with his anger and my son really enjoyed his time during therapy. At first he didn't want to do therapy, but at the end, he missed his sessions when it was over.

Family Houston has been an amazing resource in my time of need.
Ms. Judy Vo is amazing, compassionate, a great listener, and makes an effort to care for as many areas of your life such as physical health, relationships, well being, etc. I got great information from her on job leads, job searching tips, affordable health care resources.
I cannot say enough about Family Houston! I would highly recommend it.

Update on my previous review.
My bf and I went here for his counseling session it was a clean nice office with friendly workers.they suggested we don’t have couples counseling because we argued over things.Although I desperately wanted to fix the lack of communication in our relationship.I agreed with the therapist that this wasn’t the perfect time. From hindsight they were correct.its a great place to seek help.idk what kind of advice they give but maybe it will work for you.i spoke with the head chair and she agreed we were not a best fit for couples counseling and I agree with their standards

I started going to Family Services of Greater Houston about 4years age after a almost successful suicide attempt for counseling and I really didn't expect much because I had been to many other places and had thought that it was STUPID but it didn't take me long to figure out that this place was a whole lot different from anywhere else I had ever been before. My counselor was awesome. She was caring, kind and empathetic. It wasn't long before she had me opening up and if I couldn't get something out she always knew just what to do that would bring me out again. It's an amazing place for people who

My therapist is Jorge Mendoza. I've been seeing Jorge on a weekly basis for the past 6 months. He's very sharp, compassionate and thorough in our dealings. My life has been impacted positively as a result of our counseling sessions. He has a great relationship with my doctor (they did not know each other previously). He sends her timely updates. My doctor has seen me swap out counselors and find fault in each of them. There's nothing bad I can say about Jorge.
