Services
Colonial Restoration Studio has been refinishing, restoring, and conserving furniture and antiques for over 30 years. Located in Gaithersburg Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, our studio is nestled in the heart of Montgomery County. David Hawksford is a classically trained artist and registered Art Conservationist.
There are many different forms of cedar wood and many are used for eye jolting trunks and chest. These hope chests were given as gifts and passed down through family members for the storing of blankets or sweaters in the summer months. Cedar delivers a woody but fresh smell to items that are placed in the big wooden box and is favored for these reasons.
When it comes to your wicker chairs, tables and rockers, Colonial Restoration specializes in chair caning and rush maintenance and repair. We are the experts in constructing exact match patterns and weaves to restore your furniture. Our experts have spent years mastering the art of caning and rush and stand by each unique delicate weave of every chair.
Antique secretary desks that are full of individual mail slots with a drop down writing station are loved by many. There are many different types of antique desks that are cherished today such as vanity desks, writing desks, executive desks, roll top desks and many, many more. Each desk from a different decade had a purpose and every inch was utilized for making business deals or writing love letters.
When thinking of salvaging a dresser for refinishing purposes, think about using a trained professional first. Refinishing furniture is a tedious task that requires patience and time in order to have the end result come out as planned. Stripping any dresser is a messy process. Keep in mind in some cases, when purchasing an antique dresser for restoration, this dresser may have already been restored or painted before and done incorrectly.

Very, very pleased with the repair they did to my Chinese rosewood dining chair. The broken leg - broken clean off!!! - was repaired and looks good as new. The work was done when promised and the price was very reasonable. Two lumbering dogs might greet you at the door, which I found charming, and the artist/owner was very pleasant to deal with.

I dropped off some small items for repair LAST JANUARY. The owner's son accepted them. I NEVER heard back about repairs, but after multiple back and forth emails with the owner himself, apparently they had lost all of the items. When it became clear after months of this that items were gone, I requested insurance information so I could file a claim. Since that time, complete silence.

I was trying to support a small family-owned business, but this was a mistake. They just don't give a darn about their work or this particular customer.

Everyone is so kind here! The prices and service is amazing my rocking chair was broken and they fixed right up quick. I appreciate everything and will definitely be recommending to all in need of service :D
I will say they have two dogs on the property for my fellow service dog handlers. The older dog is feisty but both are very sweet.

We dropped off two pieces of antique furniture to be restored. The owner was so easy to talk to and we learned a lot from this visit. The father and son own this business. We are excited to see the end results.

I wouldn't hesitate to return to Colonial Restoration to have more work done by David (dad) and Jarrod (son). It is a family business that you can tell they take great pride in. They are also good human beings and wonderful to work with. I had 5 dining room chairs stripped from some 1960's "antiquing" process, glued, rebuilt, and then seats cushioned/upholstered by MC Interiors & Fabrics - which they work closely with. The process was seamless. I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am to have found Colonial Restoration Studio! They not only do remarkable work, they are remarkable people. They did an outstanding job on restoring my Grandmother's solid mahogany Drexel dining room table and chairs. They did such a great job that I can't even tell which chair had the back broken off. They treated the wood, cleaned, reglued and refinished all the wood surfaces, all without damaging the seat upholstery. It's like brand new. David and his son Jared are very knowledgeable about their craft, and were very patient with my many

I brought a broken ceramic beer stein to David and he fixed it in a matter of minutes. It was broken in two large pieces and the breaks were clean.

Jarrod assessed two broken bed rails from a 70 year old bed frame. They could not be repaired, but he made identical copies and matched the stain color. They look great, matching the head board and foot board; they also hook perfectly back into the head and foot boards.

Our beautiful furniture was looking really beat up after many years and a few moves.
We called Colonial Restoration and Dave came out that day. He sent us a quote right away and we moved forward with the work. Jarod picked up our dining room table, 6 chairs, a buffet and cocktail table a few days later.
When Jarod delivered our restored furniture we couldn’t believe our eyes. It’s looks better than ever.
It’s like getting new furniture. We couldn’t be happier and highly recommend Colonial Restoration Studio.

Was very pleased with refinishing of 30+ year old armoire and repair of damaged coffee table top. I highly commend the excellent craftsmanship by father & son owners, David and Jarrod. In addition, they are very nice people. The only comment I would make is to most likely expect their estimate of a work completion date to be a bit optimistic. If you're not in a rush, no problem. Would highly recommend Colonial Restoration Studio.

Excellent work. They went beyond our repair target and cleaned up the whole piece. Looks like new. They did what they said, and when they promised. They're not super fast, not super cheap, but good. This is the place to take your good furniture for a refresh after the kids leave.

I'm soooo glad I bit the bullet and had the dressers refinished. David and Jarod and crew did a fantastic job! I hesitated for a year, as the price was about $900 each. But after searching (...and searching) I realized I'd pay at least twice as much for new pieces of similar quality, and wouldn't like them as much. They came out perfectly. The process was easy, communication was great, and they very patiently helped me decide on a stain color. I'm a very happy customer!

David and Jarrod were great to work with! Words can't truly express how happy I am with the restoration of my family's table. The table was given to me by my great grandparents. Being over 100 years old, the table was in rough shape, and after several moves, it was showing some wear. I took pictures and sent them in for a quote. The quote, which ended up being the final price, was more than reasonable. When I picked the table up and got it home I couldn't believe my eyes! They completely reworked the legs so now the table is much easier to put together. The table leaf that was once

Colonial Restoration Studio was able to fix the broken fixtures to this old green chest when a lot of other local restoration stores could/would not. The finished product looks great! I could not be happier. The new fixtures look even better than the original ones. I will definitely keep them in mind if any other projects come up in the future.

These guys are TERRIFIC. VERY responsive, reasonably priced and do outstanding work. Had a gorgeous redwood custom piece that would have been $10's of thousands to replace. For a fraction of the price, they changed the color, made it look custom brand new. Couldn't be more pleased with their efforts and follow through

In 1970 my mother and I bought an armoire while living in Izmir, Turkey. We found it in an open market, called Konak. I was 10. After moving there, we found that the apartments didn't have closets.... I remember we paid about 25 lira. Around 5 us dollars. My mom passed over a decade ago and I've had this piece since. After sitting in a corner for 14 years, looking very cool, I decided to have it "fixed". The handy man I use nailed it, tried to put hinges on it and finally said I should just get rid of it. Not happy.

I called Colonial Restoration and they drove

If zero stars were an option, that's what I would rank this place. I dropped off a sentimental item to be turned into a piece of furniture. I was told they were busy but that I would have an estimate within two weeks. I was understanding about there being projects ahead of me, but apparently my business and item weren't important enough.

The only thing that I ever got from this shop was excuses.

3 and 1/2 months later and I still haven't even received an estimate. Which is absolutely ridiculous. I decided it was time to pick up my item and take my business elsewhere to a place

Wonderful wonderful place to take your priceless items to be fixed and put back into their original condition! They have our great great grandmothers antique shelf that has several mirror pieces incorporated into the piece. They are true professionals at their job, they know their stuff and they will tell you exactly what they can or cannot do based upon the item brought to them.
Update- the piece is perfect, took a bit to get back because the glass had to be cut and placed. We are so pleased!
