But when life deals out too many problems - too big of ones, or too many at one time - stress can snowball into into a myriad of disorders in coping, including: depression, anxiety, irritability, relationship conflict, alcohol abuse and, ultimately, burnout. This is particularly true for talented professionals, whose job it is to solve hard problems.

Awareness of how you tend to operate, both when you are flourishing and when you are just hanging on. Understanding about how specific features of a relationship, a workplace, or a task might render you particularly vulnerable to breakdown. Coaching in the critical skills that life calls on us to use to solve problems and cope more effectively.

Development of our selves occurs quite naturally in life when a stressful problem is met with appropriate support (including protection from additional stress!). Under these conditions, our developmental instinct spurs - gradually, over time - a new mindset, understanding and the skills needed to successfully face our life problems.
I've always loved figuring things out. My first car was a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle. I relish my memories of fidgeting with the carb to get the motor to run more smoothly (at least as much as could be done in a VW!). I've also always loved helping others. It seems to have come partly through nature and partly through nurture - as the youngest of seven in a "busy" home I learned to become important by learning to help.
It happens to the best of us, that we may find ourselves subject to a relationship or environment that is harsh, abusive, and insulting. This takes a toll on our morale and our health - and sometimes those of our loved ones. Escape is often a wise course, but (often) not before we've extracted the rich learning for ourselves: Is there anything that made me particularly vulnerable to punishment?
I'm a very happy consumer with near-continuous engagement over the past ten years. Doing my own therapy has given me an appreciation for the very strange experience of seeking help of this kind (why I aim to make meeting as natural as possible) as well as the very powerful opportunities of finding good help (why I keep such a focus on being helpful).
Therapy is an opportunity to gain expert guidance on a life problem you're having trouble navigating. Therapy promises neither a quick nor simple fix. Protect ourselves from becoming disabled by the range of emotional conditions that hamper our potential. Therapy is not the only avenue of working on oneself.

I found Tim during a time when I faced a major career decision and I needed help clarifying my values. Don’t let the Harvard pedigree fool you into thinking Tim might be a stuffy intellectual. Nothing could be further from the truth. Tim is full of kindness and compassion and has a way of listening that I had never experienced before (nor after). There is a reason why I recommended him to my closest friends. Here is what you will experience in Tim: a wise gentleness, an unconditional acceptance, and an abiding presence. This is someone who was born to serve others in this way. I will always be

I've been to many therapists in my past but Dr. Peterson has been by far the most helpful. I highly recommend him for anyone seeking to improve their lives through psychology and life overall.
