Swelling may occur after your surgery and should not be cause for concern. Swelling may reach its peak 36-72 hours after surgery and typically resolves over the course of a week. Apply ice packs to the outside of the face for the first 12-24 hours (20 minutes on-20 minutes off) to help minimize swelling.
Speaking is a challenge. Your teeth control your airflow when you speak, and help you to form certain sounds. Without teeth, your speech is greatly affected, and others may have a more difficult time understanding you. Your jawbone grows weak. This causes the bone to change shape, and other teeth can begin to shift from their natural positions, altering your bite.

I was really nervous to get my wisdom teeth removed, and Dr. Koob and the rest of the personnel here were so great. They were so understanding throughout the insurance, consultation, scheduling surgery, and surgical procedure processes, and even gave me a follow-up call to see how I was doing. The only note I would have is that I think the recovery instructions could have been a little more thorough, but it was easy enough to Google other people's experiences to know what to expect. I would definitely recommend this place if you need a similar procedure.

Madison Oral Surgery & Dental Implants provides outstanding care and customer service. The waiting area is spacious, bright and offers amazing visuals of nature scenes on two large screen tvs. They provide a quiet, thoughtful distraction to the uneasiness of visiting an oral surgeon. Being "newish" to Madison and needing dental care during an extreme emergency, they provide thorough care, answered questions, talked to me, offered a blanket when I was cold, and the extraction took minutes. I would highly recommend the office on the beltline for all your oral surgery needs.

Highly recommend Madison Oral Surgery, especially Dr. Walsh. For someone who was anxious about this process and out of my comfort zone, I could not have asked for a better process. Dr. Walsh and his team cared about my needs the whole way through and made sure I was as comfortable as could be. No reason to go anywhere else.

The Entire staff was very respectful, considerate, engaged in My experience. This is my second experience with Dr. Hoyer as my surgeon. His skills and knowledge base are excellent. I usually had questions for him at each visit and he could provide current science backed rationale for his answers. Plus, he's just a very friendly person. The facilty is beautiful. They had a large screen TV that often had nature videos playing. No noise. Just beautiful amazing visuals. Very relaxing and a good way to prepare mentally. I'd highly recommend this group for care.

There aren't enough positive things I can say about DDS Alton and his staff, as well as the rest of the staff at Madison Oral Surgery and Dental Implants. I went into the office with an almost debilitating fear of getting my wisdom teeth pulled (after putting off the constant request from my dentist for almost 30 years). This place surpassed my every expectation. They understood the fears some of us face, and handled my situation with such care and genuine concern. I had such a great experience at Madison Oral Surgery and dental implants! I was very anxious about the whole process of needing an implant. Dr. Hoyer was very gentle and did a great job explaining the whole process. I felt like I was in very good hands. The reception staff was very friendly and answered all my questions helped me through all the insurance claims. I highly recommended!

After a week of incredible misery and zero solutions from multiple other medical professionals and dentists, I finally wound up here where I was cared for with great compassion and a quick and painless solution. It seems counterintuitive to say a tooth extraction was an amazing experience, but the friendliness, warmth, expertise, and comfort of the entire staff here is unmatchable. I may have left with one less tooth, but I also left with endless satisfaction and gratitude.
