Angela Wisniewski, owner of the Coup D'etat in New Center, opened the boutique in November of 2019. In the historic Albert Kahn-designed space, Coup D'etat offers an eclectic selection of independent designs. Angela defines Coup D'etat as a "lifestyle shop" catering primarily to women. But there's definitely something for everyone - the shelves are lined with beauty products, books, accessories, jewelry and an assortment of self-knowledge tools.
Style has been her main form of expression since she was a kid. Always gravitated toward pieces and lines that were outside of what her peers were wearing, she was inspired to curate a shop and space that would connect people to small, boutique designers that they might not find anywhere else.

Congrats to the wonderful Angela Wisniewski, owner and operator of Coup D'état on the one year anniversary of her shop Coup D'état. In this past year, she's faced so many of the worldly obstacles we have all faced with so much grace and love for her community. During the elections, she used her shop as place to actively register voters. She made her shop a safe place where people can come and hang out, and experiment with their own style. Thank god for this gem. Not only is it fashion forward but the space, itself, is simply breathtaking. You can buy Clare V. there too (jackpot)! I just appreciate the accessibility to unique brands and distinct collections that aren't easy to find. The store aesthetic and quality designs make this store my new favorite!

Best shop ever! The owner is the most stylish person you’ll ever meet and wants nothing more than to share her finds with all!! Really beautiful, colorful, unique pieces you won’t stumble upon anywhere else. And you can trust that all products are brought in with integrity: solid brands, ethically made goods, fair prices, too. GREAT spot for gift shopping. Bonus- I was able to FaceTime shop during quarantine, delightful experience and got everything sent to me free of charge! Don’t sleep on this shop! It’s too good. I’ve found coup to be a warm respite from reality. it’s just plain fun to shop here and the clothes are so special and beautiful. angela, the owner and overall badass woman, makes you feel welcome. she also pushes your boundaries a little in encouraging you to try pieces and products that you might not usually consider. for me, these have been a face scrub, lip color and two shirts that work for both professional time and fun time and are now weekly staples. and a less than weekly staple but a very special, gorgeous green silk dress that i use any excuse to wear...!

Love this shop and it's elegant and playful offerings and atmosphere. Angela has done a great job infusing her eclectic personal style in this warm and welcoming shop. You can find a little bit of everything here - from stylish clothing, shoes, and accessories, to thoughtfully selected homewares like candles, to nail polish and cruelty-free, non-toxic beauty products. I am personally in love with the Darner socks! So glad to have a shop and experience like Coup here in Detroit!
