Since 2003, Midtown Eye Care has been the leader and preferred provider of quality vision care products and personalized optometric services to our patients in Memphis and the surrounding areas. Our experienced doctors and staff offer comprehensive vision examinations and specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of eye diseases, conditions, and problems.
Dr. Jared Powelson is no stranger to Memphis, in fact you could call him a 'native midtowner'. He grew up in Central Gardens and attended both grade school and high school in Midtown. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from UT Martin and the Southern College of Optometry (SCO). Dr. Powelson completed a fellowship at Southern Eye Associates in East Memphis, specializing in ocular disease and refractive surgery care.
There are a number of reasons why you might prefer contact lenses to standard eyewear: a glasses-free look, hassle-free vision correction, wearing non-prescription sunwear and goggles, or the convenience of not having to worry about misplacing your glasses. If you have a high prescription or astigmatism, contact lenses may provide more enhanced vision correction than glasses.

I had a GREAT experience when ordering new frames (and lenses) this past summer!! I LOVE the frames! Alec was so helpful and patient, and he has a wonderful sense of humor!! That sense of humor is worth a bonus! Then a couple of months later I ordered lenses for a pair of frames that I had purchased the year before, and Dustin was so pleasant, kind, and conscientious. Dustin was a big help, and his concern about doing things perfectly is worth a bonus! Dr. Powelson. as always, was extremely helpful with the exam and with resolving an issue. He does not mind taking time to help the patients.

I have a pretty amazing story, I had several medical things happening with me when I also noticed that my peripheral vision was not as good as it was before. I went to see Dr. Powelson and he did a thorough eye exam and felt like we needed to see more of my eye than is visible, so he set up an MRI. He called a week or so later and was so kind, he… let me know that the MRI had found a brain tumor. Honestly I was so grateful that I wasn't going blind. I will always see Dr. Powelson, he is a wonderful doctor and I am here in the way that I am, because he delved deeper. Thank you to him and

Simply put, these Doctors are THE best intellectuals I've encountered so far and I've been to many, many, many...
The staff couldn't be more spot on.
They all deserve at least $15/H, if they don't already.
The lobby could use some fashionable TLC but if your looking for genuinely experienced, honest, and benevolent optometrists, they're RIGHT HERE!

On 5/31 I was having an eye emergency. I could not find any place the could get me in and then I called Midtown Eye care. They got me in within an hour and a half of my phone call, AS A NEW PATIENT. The doctor was wonderful and checked out every thing. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I will be back for my new regular eye appointment. I was very happy with my experience.

My husband and I are new to the Memphis area and was in need of a eye care professional. We saw that the reviews were excellent for Midtown Eye Care and we was not disappointed. Dr. Johnson was very attentive to our eye needs and besides having a wonderful personality she took her time with us and we didn't feel rushed. Awesome experience today at Mid Town Eye Care. 1) No wait! I was taken back for my apt quickly (even a few minutes ahead of schedule) 2) Friendly staff! 3) My new glasses were made in house by Dr. Powelson so I was able to get an eye exam & new specs in less than an hour! Great experience & worth the 1.5 hour drive.
