Camp Mountain Chai is the realization of a dream of a number of committed leaders in the San Diego Jewish community. After years of searching, the current facility in Angelus Oaks was purchased in 2004 by the Jewish Community Camp and Retreat Center, Inc. and Camp Mountain Chai officially opened its doors to Jewish children in 2006.
In addition to our dynamic sleepaway summer camp, our facility is available throughout the year for conferences, retreats and other gatherings. Camp life fosters a strong sense of responsibility, self-reliance, independence, and self-worth. Unique outdoor experiences instill a passion for our natural environment in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Services
Camp Mountain Chai serves boys and girls entering grades 2 through 12. Each cabin group consists of 8-16 campers. All of our cabins include indoor bathrooms and showers, carpeting and storage for clothing and equipment. Each cabin is staffed by two to three staff members, including some activity specialists.
Most evening programs are done by unit, and are created by the staff to combine fun with meaningful, substantive Jewish content. Popular unit evening programs include getting to know your counselors, messy night, Bar/Bat Mitzvah night, Harry Potter night, treasure hunts, themed dance parties and Jews Cruise at the pool.
Each session includes a themed banquet and boasts its own unique special all-camp program. In these special all-camp programs, campers and staff have an opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills while also learning the importance of sportsmanship. Chai'dol is CMC's competitive cabin lip-sync battle.
Camp Mountain Chai welcomes all Jewish children and teens, regardless of religious affiliation or education. Our campers range from those with day school education to those for whom CMC is the only exposure to Judaism. Campers are encouraged to explore their cultural, traditional and religious heritage in a warm and supportive environment.

My two daughters (now 8 and 10) have attended the camp for two years now and it has been a transformative experience.
They went as timid, cautious little girls and came back as empowered thoughtful little women.
If my wife and I had not seen the transformation first hand it would have been difficult to believe.
That is not to say that both of my daughters were not homesick the first time they went, but we resisted the urge to pick them up and they loved it.

Camp Mountain Chai is the best camp on the planet!! My kids have been going for the past 4 summers and return home (reluctantly) having had the time of their lives.
The staff is unsurpassed, the activities plentiful, and the facility is wonderful.
Summer camp can be pricey, especially for multiple children, but it's worth every penny and them some. There are scholarship opportunities available...just ask!
The only complaint my kids have is about the food, but that's par for the course. Believe me, they don't go hungry, AND the camp accommodates dietary needs. The food is healthy
