Since 2009, Max's Coal Oven Pizzeria has offered authentic, New York style pizza, classic salads, pastas, Italian sandwiches, signature coal oven wings and freshly made desserts. One of our signature features is that we have the only genuine coal-burning oven in Georgia, enabling us to serve perfectly crisp pizzas, and create a unique taste and texture that has been a hallmark of New York City pizzerias for more than a century.
Here at Max's, we're all about the pizza. We've created the perfect dough which we top with our secret recipe red sauce, mozzarella, classic meats and fresh vegetables. From sausage and pepperoni to peppers and onions, Max's offers options to meet everyone's palette.

A great local restaurant. We took a party of 9 to eat there and had a great experience. There was a variety of food ordered: meatball sandwiches, shrimp scampi, spaghetti, and of course pizza. Everyone was pleased with their meals. The pizza was exceptional - cooked in a brick oven so it had a crisp bottom and a touch of charring in a few places. Will definitely eat there again.

Awesome place! We had went to the World of Coca-Cola and afterwards were looking for a place to get a bite to eat.
Max's Coal Oven Pizzeria is about a block away. We didn't get pizza, instead I got a Meatball Hogie and my wife got a Chicken Parmesan Hogie. Both sandwiches came out quick with a side of pasta salad. The sandwiches were both delicious! The meatballs were tender and spiced right, there was a lot of cheese and the bread was soft inside with a light crisp on the outside, perfect! The chicken parm was exactly the same in quality, lightly breaded with the right amount of sauce and cheesy

We really enjoyed this place. We were at the aquarium, which has terrible food, and found Max's within walking distance. It was a great last minute place to go. The Caesar salad was good and we really enjoyed our pizza. We got the pancetta arugula pizza. Usually the arugula is over powering on a pizza like this, but they tossed the arugula in lemon pepper and it really kicked the flavor up a notch. I would definitely come here again.

We got takeout from here while visiting downtown ATL. We stayed at a nearby hotel, so I was able to walk here no problem. The place was full and bustling, which is always a good sign. Our pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious (and approved by our 7 & 5 year olds who are SUPER picky) so it was a win all around.

I got back into reviewing places just because this place is incredible. The vibe here is super fun and everyone is extremely nice. Trey was our server and was extremely attentive and kind. He was always checking in on us and making sure we were enjoying everything! The food was absolutely fantastic and I wouldn't change a thing. Would give this place 6 stars out of 5 if I could!

I rarely hang out in the downtown area.... was starving and didn't feel like eating at the Food Court during Dragoncon - Max's sounded like a great option.
Parking - We walked to Max's from Dragoncon, so we didn't drive. However, I did see a few parking decks around. They're probably a little pricey to park in.
Seating - Indoor and Outdoor seating. I personally prefer indoor, lol. But if the weather is amazing, definitely sit outside. Indoor - good amount of tables and chairs. Overall, I'd say medium sized place.
Service - Everyone was so nice and accommodating

Good stuff. I sat at the bar for a relatively quick meal and a beer. I was short on time and the pizza cook appeared to be in the weeds, so I went for a chicken parmesan sandwich and a side caesar. Service was prompt, the staff all seemed to be enjoying their work, and the food was good. I'll be back.

Any restaurant that survives this Atlanta COVID19 smothering must be worth going to. Walking around this area of Atlanta is depressing - it's a depressed ghost town. Nonetheless, we were hungry, started walking from the hotel and stumbled upon Max's. It was an ideal spring evening so we sat outside. Our server was efficient and friendly - went with his recommendation and we weren't disappointed. The shrimp scampi was on point. The portion was just right to feel stuffed but not huge to have to take home in a box to throw away later.
I'll try the pizza next visit.

Amazing shrimp!!!! So delicious. I love the Greek salad here as they have homemade Greek dressing unlike any I've ever had. The lettuce is also fresh, cold, and crispy. It is soooo important to have this and I've never had old lettuce from this place. The wings were jumbo, juicy, & packed full of perfect flavor. Meatballs were good. The manager, Mason, is fantastic, friendly, and fast! Highly recommend this place. They even have a great outdoor area to dine in.

Walking distance from Hilton Garden inn. A very good restaurant. Known for their pizza. I know why ... it was amazing. Even though it was busy we were served very fast. Pizza average cost $15.
They have seating inside and outside. A bar area if interested in having a few. I really enjoyed this restaurant. I recommend it!

Got take out the other night because of the convenient location within walking distance to our hotel. Tried the Margarita pizza, traditional (pep, sausage, red pepper, and red onion) and a sausage onion. The crust was so delicious!!
Also tried the garlic flat bread app and the marina was a meat marina! Great surprise!

- the greek salad was perfect amount of ingredients
- environment is cool
- pizza had good reheat value
- the pizza didn't get hard, in the fridge, a day later

Came here on a Sunday afternoon & the restaurant was decently busy. Our server was so nice & sweet, but the speed of the food was a taaaad too slow. The food was alright but nothing special. The garlic flatbread was overly dry and crisp, & honestly tasted more like a cracker. We had ordered garlic knots but this came out instead, thinking maybe they just don't serve garlic knots anymore. Regardless, I would not recommend the flatbread. The pizza was pretty good! The crust was thin and chewy, and had a good amount of char.

My friends and I were in town to watch the US Olympic Marathon Team Trials. We got an early reservation for lunch here. We were all there a few minutes before the restaurant opened at 11 am. The restaurant staff were all nice and friendly.
We shared an order of the garlic knots and crispy polenta fries. Since I had just eaten breakfast, I only ordered Max's minestrone soup. The garlic knots were not bad. I do love garlic, the more the better. I also like polenta and those fries went well with the 2 different dips, Calabrian chili ketchup and basil pesto aioli. The soup was okay. However the
