In 1859, there arrived in New Orleans from the Rhineland village of Rommersheim two ambitious young German immigrants named Frantz and Schoen. The former became a blacksmith and wheelwright while the latter established a carriage and livery business.
Thus recorded the founding of what was to become Jacob Schoen & Son, Inc., a family of Funeral Directors that has served New Orleans area families for five generations and whose facilities have grown to serve the families of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany Parishes.The business soon outgrew the original N. Peters Street funeral parlor, situated between Montegut and Clouet, and in 1879, the firm moved to 527 Elysian Fields.

At the saddest time of one’s life it is a blessing to have a team of professionals help with decision-making. Each person encountered at Schoen’s was knowledgeable, polite and sympathetic. Ms. Jean Newman, in particular, was especially kind. She listened carefully and helped us have a funeral that was exactly what we wanted.
It was surprising how many different elements are involved in planning a funeral, arranging the burial, and following up on government paperwork.. Ms. Newman was there to guide us at every step. Everything went smoothly.

The fine people at Jacob Schoen were very helpful. They handled most of the process and guided me on the parts I had to do. They were quite responsive, even returning messages over the weekend. I thought their prices were fair and their facility is an amazing old home which they were kind enough to show me around since I am an architect. I recommend them highly and thank them for making a tough time easier.

From the moment we stepped into Schoen’s , we were greeted with open arms, helping us every step of the way .
They walked us through things that we had to choose, and explained everything in detail.
In the end my daughter and I were so relieved that all was done , and perfect !
We loved our choices, and appreciated the feedback from the staff .
We walked in clueless and uncertain, but left with the knowledge that we loved what we picked out, and left feeling that the staff was like our new family !

The service we received at Jacob Schoen after the passing of my father was truly superior. The staff members are so professional and compassionate. That went above and beyond to help us we planned final arrangements and stayed in touch following our loss. I highly recommend their services- simply the best!
