All of the martial arts at Atlanta's Traditional Okinawan Karate-do Dojo are taught in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect. The goal is to strengthen the individual in all aspects of development. Adhering to the traditional concepts of Budo, the practitioner is encouraged and assisted in exploring all facets of his or her personality, aiming toward intellectual, moral, and physical development.
We do not teach sport karate. The Okinawans developed these systems hundreds of years ago when unarmed techniques were the only means of self-defense, and the karate we teach has been passed down for generations. Moeller Sensei also incorporates principles and drills from his study of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Hung Gar Kung Fu and Aikido for more than twenty years.

Services
Atlanta's Traditional Okinawan Karate-do Dojo is devoted to excellence in martial arts training. Our goal is to provide the highest level of instruction in traditional Karate-do and other martial arts. Training at the dojo provides both physical and mental development which leads to the balanced growth of the students' bodies and minds.
You don't have to wear a uniform to your first class. Just wear comfortable workout clothes. Please remove all jewelry and be ready to practice barefoot. Once you've decided you like our classes, you can purchase a uniform at the Dojo for $25 from any of the instructors. There are a few etiquette rules to follow.
Martial arts training has proven to be an effective method of developing the individual in a whole and positive way. Through physical training, the student develops a deeper sense of self-confidence tempered by the virtue of humility. Emphasis is placed on a wide variety of physical skills, including endurance, strength, and flexibility.
The study of Karate-do is more than a way to learn self-defense or get in shape - it is a way of life, and Karate-do Foundations is also more than just a karate how-to book. Using detailed descriptions and hundreds of photographs, Moeller Sensei leads readers on a journey to understanding the martial art of Karate-Do.
Before beginning the technical portion of this book, I want to share some of the benefits that I have derived from my karate-do training. In particular, I want to discuss some of the non-martial benefits. Most people realize that karate training effectively teaches people how to defend themselves, but many are unaware of the other skills and abilities that are developed.

I have been a student of Moller Sensei since 2007 (starting on my 62nd birthday). Over these past 14 years I have thoroughly enjoyed the training received in the traditional Okinawan martials arts of Shobayashi Shorin Ryu and Shudokan systems of Karate-do. I can honestly say had I not received such great training, both physically and mentally, I would not have the sense of balance, coordination, and strength as I do today.
I did not join the ATOK dojo with the intent of seeking belt rank. My interest was staying as physically fit as I possibly could, for as long as I possibly could. Today I know

I have trained with Moeller Sensei for over25 years. In my training I have traveled the U.S. and been to numerous dojo’s and seminars, training with many 8-10 Dan’s. Moeller Sensei is one of the best teachers and practitioners of Traditional Okinawan Karate I have been fortunate enough to train with. He teaches Shorin-Ryu, Shudokan and Kung Gar Kung Fu. Moeller Sensei has also been studying Tai Chi and Aikido over 20 years and will teach Goju and Tamarite kata as well. The dojo is primarily a Shorin -Ryu School but 50% of the training is in the other arts. He teaches each of these in the traditional

I have been a student of Atlanta's Traditional Okinawan Karate-do Dojo since 2014. I have some previous training in Kickboxing Karate and Kempo Karate. I find the method of training to be of immeasurable value, consisting of kata, conditioning, seminars, and history. There are bonus topics that include additional subject matter that expand my view and understanding of martial arts. Sessions consist of group training combined with individual training, to give attention to each person's level of learning. It is a very rich experience that outweigh the dues.

This dojo teaches lifelong martial training, not just how to win in a fight. Sensei Moeller has dedicated 35+ years of his time into making this a center of learning for anybody who wants to learn how to learn Okinawan Karate in the same traditional ways that he and his masters learned. His passion shows in the way that he instructs both his black belts and his white belts with a calm patience.
The training that you learn at the dojo isn't just physical - but mental and emotional as well, and it makes lifelong decisions easier to handle, both in the dojo and outside the dojo

I’ve grown up with a lot of martial arts in my life. Judo and shotokan were my first two systems taught from father to my brother and me from kindergarten before studying a few other systems as a teenager.
From all my training, I have seen many kinds of teaching, but two systems have stood out; one is our system here and the other was a very traditional southern kung fu kwoon. For me, the traditional path is best. These systems of martial arts were developed over centuries. In a world of sports fighting, we often forget the “martial” aspect. These systems were developed by oppressed people

I was one of Sensei Moeller's first students in Atlanta over 30 years ago and now hold the rank of Rokudan in both Shorin Ryu and Shudokan Karate do. As part of our training I have been exposed to and studied many other arts extensively including Hungar Gung Fu, Tai Chi, Aikido, Wing Chun, Goju Ryu, Kabuto or weapons systems including the six classical Okinawan weapons and many Gung Fu weapons. Sensei's instruction provides the broadest of perspectives and martial arts knowledge of any school with emphasis on traditional philosophy and approach to training. Our training includes both hard, soft

I have had the priviledge of being a student of Moeller Sensei for several years. You could not ask for a more selfless individual to share what he has acquired over decades of practicing authentic martial arts. The classes are taught in a non competitive, cooperative and mutually respectful environment. The instructors give freely of their time to work with you from the basics to the more in depth meanings behind the movements. I highly recommend this school for anyone looking for traditional okinawan karate, self defense or just good work out.

I have been a student of Moeller Sensei since 2001and have always felt that I got the best of care, instruction, and friendship from him and the senior students who assist him in training. One of the things I have always appreciated most about Sensei and the dojo is attention to not only the physical aspects of karate training, but the philosophical and historical aspects. I don't live that close to the dojo and I am surrounded by martial arts schools. The fact that I have driven past everyone of those to train with Moeller Sensei for the past (almost) 20 years should tell you something of the

I'm a student of Sensei Mark Moeller since 2008 at Atlanta's Traditional Okinawan Karatedo Dojo. This dojo (school) he has so generously created and the knowledge he shares with so many of his students is quite frankly priceless. I'm deeply impressed with Sensei's care of every single student that's ever trained here, whether it was for 2 months or 20 years.
His love of the martial arts is readily apparent, and no matter what the challenges are, he always finds a way to spark curiosity in each student, which I find only in the greatest teachers. The kids classes are energized and playful, with

After moving to the Atlanta metro area, I searched for a martial arts school to continue my karate training. I was invited to visit the dojo by Sensei Mark Moeller on a trial basis and have been training there for the last year. The instructors have years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels and are dedicated to the study of martial arts. If you are searching for a unique learning experience I highly recommend this school.
