Oftentimes, people are unaware that they may have an additional set of teeth growing under the surface of their gums that can cause significant problems. This third set of molars, or "wisdom teeth" as they are more commonly known, are often undetectable until they become a problem. Sometimes, they grow beneath the surface of the gums, and an x-Ray must be obtained to determine if they are present.
Our doctors at Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta perform a unique dental implant solution called the All-on-4 Treatment Concept, also known as Teeth-in-an-Hour. The All-on-4 Treatment Concept offers patients in need of a full-arch replacement a faster procedure and healing time. In this procedure, four (or possibly more) implants are placed in the patient's upper or lower jaw to secure a complete denture.
It is common for patients who have been missing a tooth or several teeth for an extended period of time to need a bone grafting procedure. When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the jaw bone may begin to resorb, or deteriorate, making some tooth replacement procedures, like the placement of dental implants, difficult to perform.
Teeth that have been damaged by decay or traumatic fracture can sometimes be fixed with a filling, root canal, or crown. However, at times, there is too much damage for one of these procedures, in which case the damaged tooth or teeth must be removed. Some common reasons for needing a tooth extraction include infection, crowding, and tooth loosening.
Oral pathology is the medical term for any disease that can develop inside the oral cavity and associated structures, including the jaws or salivary glands. There are many varieties of oral pathological processes. If you think that you may be experiencing an oral pathological process, you may notice a change in the appearance of your mucosa.

Dr. Aiken and his staff are amazing and so professional. I went in on a referral to get my molar extracted. I was in SO much pain with the molar sitting on a nerve plus having a cavity, hence it was a difficult extraction. Dr. Aiken and his assistant were extremely patient with me, talked me through the whole procedure, and made sure I was as comfortable as possible despite the severe pain. He even followed up with me 48 hours later to make sure I was ok. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone. Thank you Oral Surgery Specialist of Atlanta!

I had been in pain for weeks, seen three different dentist and not one could help me relieve my dental pain! Each dentist piggy back of the next telling me why my teeth pain was hurting so severe! Not one took the time to look at the X-Ray or my mouth to see where the severity of my pain was coming from! I tried to get an appointment with several oral surgeons in my area of Athens, Georgia but not one could see me for weeks. I was literally crying because I could get no help! My daughter found Dr. Aiken and his staff! I gave them a call, I was in so much pain & tears! The nice lady at the front

My son had his wisdom teeth removed (4) and he was quite nervous before the surgery. Dr. Aiken was very informative before the procedure and took his time answering questions. On procedure day, Carlos assisted in keeping my son calm and comfortable and made the process a breeze. Friendly staff and efficient and timely procedure from start to finish. Highly Recommeded. Alfred says thanks again for everything!

I usually don't leave Google reviews, but I had to leave one today. I had such a great experience! When I was 16 I had two of my wisdom teeth pulled out and to put it nicely, I waited 25+ years to get the other side done because the experience was not great. I was so nervous coming in, but over the years my dentists have been telling me I needed the other two pulled out. I did some research on Google and decided on Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta and I'm so glad I did. It was the complete opposite of my first experience. The entire staff put me at ease from the receptionist to the nurse to

I drove THREE HOURS for a wisdom tooth extraction. Why? Because I found an office that offered great COVID protocols and did not make me feel weird or pushy for asking the necessary questions to safeguard my health and that of my family. Kirstina, the office coordinator, was very kind and patient as we discussed my concerns over the phone. It is because of her willingness to share information and accommodate, as well as the multiple rave reviews for both surgeons, that I scheduled the dreaded appointment. Dr. Aiken and Michael, his assistant, wore N95 masks, and Michael was very thorough sanitizing

Now I usually don’t write reviews but I just had too! I was super nervous about getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed but I understand that this process was long overdue. From the start, I had my doubt but it was quickly put at ease when the front desk was so friendly. It almost scared me how friendly everyone was- it was something I wasn’t use to. Dr. Shessel is amazing!! And honestly amazing is an understatement. I never felt so calm, happy, and ready for an appointment ever!! I suffer from bad social anxiety and I felt at ease the whole entire time. They deserve so much recognition

Extremely positive experience. My 16yo had her wisdom teeth taken out (all 4) and Dr. Aiken was professional and consultative through the entire process. He even texted/called days after the procedure to check in on the patient, make sure she was feeling fine and the post-op treatment plan was effective. Really appreciate how comfortable Dr. Aiken and his team made us feel from the very first office visit through 2 weeks after the procedure. 5 star experience.

I was referred to Dr. Aiken for removal of one of my wisdom teeth that had problems. When we met he looked and told me we should just take all 4 of them. I was way more than a bit apprehensive and nervous. He assured me it is better to do this once than 4 times. I agreed and so happy I did. I think I was in the chair for a total of 25 minutes and was walking out the door. I couldn’t believe when he said I was done. 20 + years of worrying about getting my wisdom teeth removed is now gone after a simple 25 minute procedure. Goodbye wisdom teeth and good riddance. Thank you Dr. Aiken and the
