The objective of our business is to provide reliable service for our customers. We hope your visit to our web site answers any questions you may have and we look forward to serving you in your time of need. Independent Professional Services is a family owned business. The company was founded by Gerald Newlon over 30 years ago and continues to be run by his sons, Gregory and Geoffrey Newlon.
Obituary Charges are billed to the family by the newspaper. We will be glad to assist you in posting an obituary. Submissions for The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News can be sent electronically online, by phone, by fax, or in person. Gerald attended Mortuary School in California and has been a Utah funeral director since 1973. He started IPS in 1984 after working at a local funeral home for 10 years. He attended the University of Utah and University of Phoenix, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with emphasis on Industrial Relations.

Unfortunately my mother passed away unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. I chose IPS mortuary to take care of us and was blown away by the professionalism and care. They were a blessing to my life when I was feeling lost and unsure of what my next steps were. I felt like my mom was treated with dignity and respect and I could tell that they truly understood my pain.

IPS has been so helpful from beginning to end with the passing of my mother. They are so kind and compassionate as to what is going on in your current situation. I would highly recommend if you ever have to go through the unfortunate circumstances of dealing with the passing of a loved one that you go to these guys.

IPS was amazing! We contacted them to take care of the cremation of my nephew and they were so nice and so professional! They made the process so easy and we all felt comforted and at peace with the process. They were wonderful! Also, the Direct Cremation was surprisingly affordable. I can't say enough nice things about them.

During a time of grief and shock these guys were more than amazing and understanding. They gave me as much time as I needed to come up with a plan, they let me change my mind over and over again, as well as answered all of my questions; and never once tried to sell us anything.
They told us the whole process in detail, asked all of our questions thouroughly. Even let me make changes at the last moment. I highly recommend IPS crematory and mortuary.
