When it comes to your investments, you want a firm that is a fiduciary. Not everybody is. You want a firm who is not only ethically obligated, but legally obligated, to act in your best interest. As a Registered Investment Advisor, we are obligated to put your needs ahead of our own. We think you'd value that.
Writing a blog, publishing an email series, and even giving financial advice is my attempt to share hard won truths with other like minded souls. Even if just one person reads this or learns something useful, it can be incredibly validating. The idea that I can make a meaningful, positive difference in another person's life is, at the end of the day, a real standard worth measuring.
Many years ago, I realized I wanted to live the life I loved, which did NOT mean 80-hour work weeks, poor health or crippled relationships typical of the investment field. I was not willing to sacrifice my life for money. This turned out to be blasphemy in the investment world. For me that meant geographic liberty and camaraderie with those I admired.
Theoretically, the investment business could be easy. Sign a few forms, wave a magic wand, and bam, money moves from here to there with no problems, concerns or issues. But with so many big firms hiring as inexpensively as possible, and providing so little education, this industry is rife with people that simply can't do the job.
