We hired Andrew from Portland Ironworks to create a custom handrail for our staircase. I had a vision in mind and some inspiration photos, and Andrew brought it to life perfectly! He was very responsive, communicative, and easy to work with during the entire design, fabrication, and installation process.

Last year, I had my house repainted and decided it was time to replace the wood railing of my porch stairs with something a little more durable and unique. I was lucky to be able to hire Andrew for the project at a time were his business was starting to take off.
Andrew delivered a piece of art for my railing, inspired by the house and the front garden. A striking piece mixing reeds and a heron flanked on either side of the staircase, sure has caught many eyes since.

Andrew is a neighbor of ours, but we didn't know that until we called him to ask about making a gate for us. Now the gate is finished and our families have become friends. He is very down-to-earth, responsive, and creative. He was enthusiastic about the design during the initial phases and we worked together to land on a river scene that includes Steelhead and Heron. It could have turned out cartoonish or hoaky but it is stunning with some of the features hand-forged.The result is a fantastic, unique gate that my wife and I plan to move to our next house since we love it so much.

Andrew did an amazing job on our railing. He was incredibly patient as we worked to articulate what we wanted, and he delivered an amazing piece of work. I knew we had picked and excellent artisan when I heard how happy the installation and his perfectly parallel lines worked from initial measurements to fabrication and ultimately the installation. He took particular care to also ensure the railing is as functional and stable as it is clean and precise. We would use him again on a heartbeat.

It has worked beautifully and we have thoroughly enjoyed having it in place. We were so impressed with your workmanship and the care you put into installing the gates. From the moment I reached out to Andrew to discuss the redo of our 90's-style wood interior railing he was responsive, professional and a complete pleasure to work with. Our existing space had lots of angles -- and coupled with the fact that we had already redone our hardwood floors requiring that we work within the current footprint of the railing/stairs -- we knew it would be a challenging project. We could not be happier with the design and construction of the steel railings we commissioned from Portland Ironworks. Andrew and his team are great to work with: Courteous, professional, and enthusiastic about their craft. They put together a great design and built a high quality product. I have a family friend who is a professional welder come visit. He got up close and personal with the weld quality and he could find absolutely nothing negative to coment on. The railing looks great. Next year when we start on exterior remodeling, I'll have more work that will be going to Portland Ironworks
