Services
Very often, people planning funerals for either themselves or loved ones will combine aspects of the various services we offer. The funeral director will guide you through all the options, associated merchandise and planning, as well as discuss aftercare and bereavement services. Do you prefer traditional funerals and burials, or are you interested in non-traditional options?.
The John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. funeral home accommodates services of all sizes. Gather your family and friends together to honor your loved one, share memories, and comfort one another. We have an on-site chapel available for quiet reflection, and funeral services and blessings across all faiths and denominations.
The Still Remembered Project provides bereaved parents and families Christian-based supportand encouragement for a loss due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death. Still Supported, a peer-based support group for bereaved mothers, meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. Meetings give women a place to share and connect with others who are on a similar grief journey.
A Celebration of Life is a non-traditional, sometimes secular service that focuses less on a formal ceremony and more on the character and personality of you or your loved one. Through pre-planning your own celebration or planning a celebration for your loved one, you will be an active participant in choosing how the celebration of life will happen.
Cremation is a common practice, whether it be to honor religious or cultural traditions, continue a family tradition, or to keep the deceased close by in a commemorative urn. The actual cremation itself is just one step in a series of events that comprise the whole memorialization. It may be combined with any of our other services, such as a traditional or modified funeral, tribute, or military funeral honors.

We had the tragedy of losing our first born to stillbirth. Our experience here made the worst time in our lives tolerable not only did they treat us and our daughter Emery with kindness and compassion. They covered all the costs. If you are ever looking for a funeral home know that your loved one and yourself will be treated excellently here. I will highly recommend them for anyone who lost someone special.

John and his team are exceptional, they are kind, caring and compassionate. The home is large, welcoming and comforting. The chapel is lovely and there is even a large meeting room for receptions or luncheons after your services. The parking lot is large and the location is easily accessible from all areas of Pittsburgh. Highly recommend.
