Our family started a tradition of serving the Shelton community in 1978, when Bob and Alice began Hackney Family Dentistry. Dr. Bob Hackney attended Washington State University at Pullman and Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in Maryland. From the beginning of his career, he continually stayed on top of the advances in dental care.
At your first visit expect to spend about an hour with us so that we can get to know you, and so that we can make you a plan that best fits your dental needs. We will take the time to address your dental concerns and explain treatment options, both for emergent dental needs and comprehensive dental care plans.
Our team is one of our practice's greatest assets, and we are extremely proud of each person that works in our office. Our team is highly trained and efficient, and are truly experts in their field. One of the strengths of our staff is that they each take a personal interest in making your experience a good one.
Kids can expect a dental visit with us to be comfortable, and even fun! We create a non-intimidating environment in which our friendly staff prepares kids for all the steps of their visit. We offer complimentary nitrous oxide to help kids relax. Our use of modern digital x-rays means that we can quickly take images of even the smallest mouths and gain valuable diagnostic information to conservatively plan treatment.
If fear has kept you from visiting the dentist, we offer several levels of sedation. Sedation dentistry can be a good option if you are dental phobic, would like to get multiple procedures completed in one appointment, or if you would just like a little extra help relaxing during your visit. We offer basic level sedation with complimentary nitrous oxide which "takes the edge off" if you are slightly nervous.

Dentists themselves are really nice and good at what they do. I left because their office manager is so intensely and repeatedly rude (I would even argue that she's combative at times) I couldn't deal with any of it anymore. They're also incredibly overbooked. Their "emergency" appointments are booking three weeks out. A broken tooth can't wait three weeks. We moved on.

I never knew I could look forward to seeing my dental professional team. I moved from a big city (out of state) to Shelton, and had only been under the care of "chain" dental offices prior to moving here. I can tell the staff here actually enjoys their job, and has the experience to back it up. I always get major anxiety about dental care, even though I've never had any huge issues, but the Hackney dental team has been so stellar in taking care of my oral health that the overall demeanor brings me a sense of calm. How refreshing!

Just moved to the area and needed a new dentist, so I read reviews and picked Hackney Family Dentistry based on comments.
They were able to get me in quickly to schedule a repair to a chipped crown. Turned out to be 2 cracked crowns, but ok...
The process to fix these issues was remarkable, in that I think it's been just 2 weeks since my initial appointment, maybe 3. My temporary crown came off when I was brushing my teeth this morning and they squeezed me in today to re-stick it on. Turned out the permanent crowns came in early, and within an hour, I was out the door with 2 new teeth 5 days

Very friendly, yet professional people. Like so many others, going to the Dentist makes me feel anxious. I felt completely at ease with everyone I encountered at Hackney Dental within a few minutes after arrival for my 1st visit. I never felt pressured to do any of the suggested work needed on my teeth. I highly recommend Hackney Dental if you don't feel comfortable going to the Dentist. They will set your mind at ease & make you glad you are there. They will help you to achieve putting on your best smile!

My experience this morning with the two receptionists and Kayla — the dental assistant and Dr. Travis was exceptionally great; a crown loosened while flossing my teeth at 10:15 AM; I was in a dental office chair by 11:15 AM; and my crown was examined, taken out and re-cemented by 11:40. Thank you to a great team at Hackney Family Dentistry!

I have gone to this dentist for four years and have had good experiences with Dr. Hackney but I am not pleased with the office staff. On several occasions over the last four years I have scheduled appointments and been told after arriving to the office for the appointment that it needed to be rescheduled due to staffing issues. This most recent time finally tipped me over the edge to write a review and I won't be going back.

Always have a good experience at Hackney Dental!
Everyone is courteous and professional. All questions are answered, even anticipated. Advice is routinely given. On my most recent visit I had to wait for just a few minutes, but they gave me a coffee gift card as way of apology. Completely unnecessary, but just showed me how above and beyond they are!
I left for a few years because another dental office was more convenient, but came back and can't believe that I ever left! Won't happen again.

Talk about amazing dentists and staff! I began a very long dental process today to fix my teeth and Dr. Travis was incredible along with his assistant Kayla. I was in the chair for 4.5 hours today and they did everything possible to keep me comfortable plus he saved two teeth that another dentist was just going to pull! Thank you all I do not think I will be as nervous next time lol

In a crisis, Dr Kyle was able to help me with affordable emergency dental care. The staff is warm, friendly, and they all appear to love working there. My hygienists were gentle and informative. During my root canal, the process was as quick as possible and I felt no pain. I feel 100% better now and having my own teeth still is such a joy. I will definitely be a patient for life!

I am writing this so that it may save you time, pain and a whole lot of money. I live in Shelton and I tried Hackney Family Dentistry for the first time about two year ago. I had only ever had one cavity before in my life, and it came as quite a shock to hear that, in the six months since my last appointment with my previous dentist, I had racked up six new cavities. Hackney told me that the sooner I acted the better, as several of these cavities were in an advanced stage of decay. I was looking for a dentist near home as my old dentist was near my work and I retired. I received a flier with a coupon ($59.00 includes exam,and all necessary xrays). I called, made the appointment, mentioned the ad, and said I also wanted a cleaning as it had been 6 months and was due. Well I didn't like the way the hygienist was stalling and I got my exam before my cleaning and never got my cleaning. I didn't go back. Maybe you will have better luck as they came recommended to me by my wife's friends.
