First, insight is the admission that one has a need, issue, or problem thus indicating a readiness for counseling. A client who comes to treatment with a list of who else has the problem and refuses to take ownership will probably not gain much from the process. Third, insight is the goal of therapy.
At the end of therapy clients can expect to know more about their selves, their issues, strengths, weaknesses, and gifts. They will understand what they have tried in the past that has not worked. Clients will obtain tools to enable them to continue to gain self-awareness and make accurate estimates of strengths and weaknesses.
