With background in journalism, I first picked up a camera to shoot photos for an article I was writing. Since then, I've been carrying a camera with me wherever I go. Growing up surrounded by the redwoods and a vibrant artist community taught me a lot about composition and color. It was while working as a reporter in the Middle East that I fully realized the power of a great photo.
Witnessing humanity in moments, both tragic and heartwarming, left me with a desire to preserve the most important events of people's lives. Marketing and design combine several things I love -- people, art and data. My wife and I were looking for a photographer to capture our wedding day. We came across Deric's website through some close friends and quickly booked him for our engagement shoot. Deric was professional and thorough making sure that each shot was beautiful. We were so thrilled we booked him for our rehearsal dinner and wedding day photos. We were not disappointed. My son is a senior in High School and took the obligatory photos through his school and when I got them back I was sad to discover a set of wooden and staged lifeless pictures.
It was important to me to try and capture this special moment in my son's life in a more authentic and genuine way. No easy feat with a teenager who dislikes having his picture taken and who is pretty introverted around adults he doesn't know.
When I explained to Deric he totally got it. He had some great ideas and we set up a shoot. He was prompt and professional and came prepared with lots of lenses and equipment

Deric shot my wedding in November 2015 and I cannot sing his praises enough! He took the time to understand our vision and style, and he helped us put together a thorough shot list for the big day so we were all on the same page. I really love candid, captured moments in wedding photos, but was worried I wouldn't feel comfortable really being open and myself with a photographer right there. Deric deserves 6/5 stars! In short, he became both friend and family while photographing our groom's dinner, ceremony, and reception. His work speaks for itself (I mean, come on. Look at it!), but know that the man behind the camera is definitely someone you want by your side at your wedding. We were drawn to his vivid, journalistic style, and got exactly what we hoped for. He took time to get to know our guests, and captured candid portraits with personality, ephemeral and pivotal moments, and all the joy and love of our family and friends on that special day.

Perfect!
I did my head shots with him back in May and I had a BLAST. I get a bit nervous when I take professional pictures and he made me feel really comfortable. He is flexible and caters to what you want. He has a great eye for capturing the perfect moments.
A really professional person in every way of the word, he drove up to my neighborhood to make it easier for me. After the pictures were complete he asked me if I was happy with them and if I wanted any changes. Not every photographer does that!
He knows exactly how to take your picture and the results are amazing. I love my pics and

Deric has a great eye and provided us the perfect mix of beautiful posed and candid shots that we were hoping for.
