Phil began his "digital" career around 1995, when one of his clients presented a scenario that pretty much required a headlong leap into the then exotic world of pixels and the scanning of film negatives & transparencies. Digital imaging, for better or for worse, is of course, now the norm in commercial photography.
With the rise of the Web, fairly suddenly everyone became a "professional" photog. Back in the prehistoric period before all of these pixels began flying around the world, and communication relied on something other than Skype or texting, clients would find photographers pretty much by word of mouth, or by looking through expensively-produced yearbooks in which photographers displayed their best work - at a pretty heady cost.
