At an altitude of 8885 ft, Crested Butte is situated at the end of the road at the base of the Elk Mountains. Fondly referred to as the 'Gateway to the Elk Mountains' was home to the Ute Indians and then a booming mining town. With the coal mining long gone and the opening of the ski resort by Dick Eflin and Fred Rice, Crested Butte is known today as the 'Last Great Colorado ski town' by many.
While other area communities are valley dwellers looking up to the mountains, Mt. Crested Butte sits serenely above the town of Crested Butte and takes advantage of unobstructed mountain views and vistas in the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. Known as the queen jewel of the Elk Mountains, there are many choices for types of homes and properties within Mt.
Gunnison has a population of around 6000 residents and sits at an altitude of 7700ft. It is a unique high plains desert and a blend of outdoor recreation and ranching with a vibrant main street. The ranching heritage has stood the tests of time and cowboys still drive cattle and gather hay for their livestock.
