Joyful Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, formerly known as Fredric Tatel and Associates is one of the oldest established pediatric dental practices in the southwest suburbs. Dr. McDonald was an associate at Fredric Tatel and Associates and the practice was transitioned to her in February of 2017. Dr. McDonald was selected because of her ability to provide patients with the same level of care.
A pediatric dental specialist provides comprehensive preventative care and therapeutic oral health care to infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. Pediatric dentists have completed an additional two-year advanced educational program providing them with special skills and knowledge beyond that of a general dentist.
Preventative dental care is the act of caring for teeth to keep them healthy. Routine preventative dental care can help children avoid cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis, enamel wear, space deficiency and more. Our office provides a number of preventative services. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that aids in cavity prevention.
Restorative dentistry is the prevention and treatment of diseases of the teeth to restore or bring them back to their best health. Restorative dentistry also includes the repair or replacement of damaged or defective teeth. Composite Fillings (White fillings) - Composite fillings are primarily made up of resin.
Sedation dentistry is the use of medications to help patients relax during dental treatment. Sedation can help increase cooperation and reduce anxiety and/or discomfort associated with a dental procedure. There are many types of sedation available for the pediatric patient. Nitrous Oxide sometimes called laughing gas is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask.

Dr. McDonald is one of the most down to earth, caring, understanding, patient, and fun dentist that I know of! Her entire team including front office is friendly, welcoming, and professional. This place is always decorated so nicely as well. There are nice prizes for the taking and cool sunglasses for the kiddos to wear while there. There are games to keep the kiddos entertained so the guardian can get a "breather" as kiddo wait to see dentist! I thought it was sooo cute to have my kiddos name on their special board for first timers-very welcoming for them! Dr. McDonald really listens and take

My first experience with Joyful Smiles was awesome!! All the staff in the office are kind and attentive to the patients needs. My daughter is 4yrs old and Dr. Mcdonald was gentle and patient with her. I will be returning for my daughter’s treatment next month in Nov. I have no insurance and pricing is very reasonable. Well worth my 40min drive from home to Joyful Smiles in Tinley Park. Joyful Smiles has exceptional work ethic! I will be recommending to friends and family. 🙂
