Where we deem necessary, our default is to take life-saving measures to stabilize your pet, which may include resuscitation. You may choose to update your preference for emergency medical directive during consultation with our medical team. I, the undersigned, do hereby certify that I am over the age of 18 and am the owner (or authorized agent) of the above-described patient.
But just like with anesthesiologists who help human patients, there are veterinary anesthesiologists who treat animal patients. These vets are actually specialists, with advanced training, who know how to deliver anesthesia to your pet in the safest possible way. Watch this video featuring anesthesiologist, Elizabeth Goudie, to learn more about the complexities of administering pain medication.
If your pets fly, scamper, slither or crawl, our BluePearl veterinary specialists can treat them. From birds and small mammals to reptiles and amphibians, we've seen them all! In many BluePearl hospitals, our doctors treat infections, injuries, metabolic disorders like kidney disease, behavior issues and even cancer in our feathered friends or exotic pets.
If you have a heart problem, you might need to see a cardiologist. It's the same in the animal world. If your pet has a heart issue, your local vet may refer you to a BluePearl veterinary cardiologist. They're experts in caring for the heart health of our furry friends. Our pet cardiologists know all about your pet's circulatory system: the heart muscle, valves and blood vessels.

Thank goodness for Blue Pearl. The team answering the phone is profesional and caring. That alone means so much right now especially with there being such a burden in animal medicine. It's a very scary experience to drop a pet off and not be with them while they're being examined. I was impressed with Dr Sutton who saw my dog. He called me and I felt like I was in the same room while he was examining him. I have an older dog with a lot of conditions. His assessment was spot on as if sees my dog all the time.
It's comforting to me to know there's a skilled and compassionate hospital for me to take

Cat was suddenly in amazing distress and pain late the other night. We had been rejected for help from VVC and were trying Blue Pearl. Told the same story as VVC, they were closed to new patients while the receptionist could hear the cat screaming. I asked for an exception , this was a true emergency, I was told no. I understand staffing shortages, and such that we are living with right now. Where the heck is the compassion? Since no one in the Richmond area would see her, we were forced to go to Charlottesville (1.5hr away), to Greenbrier, who said bring her in , they had a wait time

My dog suffered an injury to his leg earlier today. I was concerned it was a soft tissue injury, like an ACL tear. I called Blue Pearl in PDX as I know of their great reputation for emergency and specialty care. Even though the hospital hadn't officially opened as they were still setting up, they took him in right away without hesitation. Came up with a treatment plan, medications to support his healing, and next steps to follow.
I couldn't have been happier with the care that he received and their accomodation of his need for care. They very easily, and understandably, could've turned us away

My dog had an ongoing condition that rather suddenly took a turn for the worse. I knew it was a possible end of life situation and being a weekend with limited options I took her to Blue Pearl. My 6-8 hour wait time ended up being less than 3 hours and the entire staff couldn't have been any better. The vet explained all options very well and as much as it hurt I opted to put her down for her sake. They were so kind and gentle, and giving her treats to make her last few minutes as pleasant as possible was really appreciated. Couldn't have had a better experience despite the horrible situation

Not a good experience before, during or after our visit. Nothing was done to help relieve our dogs discomfort. Nothing was done to focus on alleviating the immediate symptoms. No communication after, no follow up after and no testing done after to explain what happened. Very disheartening and sad in an emotional emergency situation.

As I write this, I still cannot believe that my dear friend lost her three year-old Bernese Mountain dog, Ellie, while at this facility. What started out as a difficult spay at another hospital was exacerbated when Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Richmond, VA took out Ellie's spleen - she had already suffered so much trauma - and without my friend's knowledge. They deemed it necessary, along with some other things. The price tag for five days at Blue Pearl was more than $12,000. Ellie eventually had to be put to sleep at yet another facility. What happened to this dog is criminal. To make

Went here this past weekend with my cat and they were amazing!! Called ahead of time to explain what was going on and when we got there did not have to wait at all. Everyone was incredibly nice, professional and sympathetic to the situation going on!! I would recommend them to anyone who needs an emergency vet!!

If I could give a zero rating I would. This animal hospital is horrible. There is no other word . The staff is completely incompetent. We waited for more than 12 -yes , you are reading that correctly 12 - hours just to be seen and another 3 before we were done. We have a very healthy and energetic 4 year old lab who couldn't walk and was in so much distress and pain that her teeth were chattering. Though we begged and pleaded we were still passed over for other animals that came and went who were ambulatory. This treatment was completely inhumane and their license should be revoked. Please
