Rio Grande Animal Hospital welcomes all new clients. We are strong advocates of communication and will partner with you to solve your pet's health care issues while providing the best care available. Pet insurance pays, partly or in total, for veterinary treatment of the insured person's ill or injured pet. Some policies will pay out when the pet dies, or if it is lost or stolen. As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pets' health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any animal. Dental disease leads to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population in Albuquerque, NM.
We have state of the art diagnostic tools that allow our staff to better diagnose your pet's condition or illness. It is our commitment to stay on the cutting edge of diagnostic technology. Having these advanced diagnostic tools allows us to examine specific areas more closely and provide a quicker and more accurate diagnosis.

Had a pre dental checkup, to get my dogs teeth cleaned 5 months ago, they told me after I paid for the pre dental appointment, that they didn't have any openings until January.
Since I had already paid and I would just have to pay somewhere else for the same pre dental, I took the date.
Now 5 months later I'm being told it's going to be another 3 months before they can see my dog and her teeth are just getting worse. Too short staffed to be open. Unethical practice.

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness
Our sweet cat got sick and died a couple weeks ago and I hadn't cried so much in 25 years! The entire staff at Rio Grande Animal Hospital wrote loving words in a card that I received in the mail last week and thus I cried again. I really appreciate their authentic kindness and support during this time and over the past 7 years.

They seem to feel, when unemployment is at its highest, $20 is something anyone can afford and a laughable amount of money. They mocked and shamed me on my google review and then deleted it out of regret maybe(?). Yet they do not have it within themselves to offer an apology.
The receptionist did not inform me of added fees at the time of booking my appointment. And management would not discuss the surprise expenses with me at the time.
Below is their response to their price gouging tactics, I am not the only one they are extorting (read their other google page, they have two, I wonder why) and

LOVE LOVE LOVE these guys!!! So patient and knowledgeable- diagnosed my senior cat when 3 other vets couldn’t. Fantastic with my undersocialized kitten as well. The vets there are so friendly and they have never rushed my visit- even when busy!

I had to euthanize my dog of 16 years, and I was naturally nervous about the process and how it would be for him. They were made it very special, even brought some treats in for him. Thank you for listening to me reminisce and being sweet to me and my dog.

Good doctors, but it’s a business more than a family clinic. They push sales and sometimes it’s hard to know what my pet actually needs and there are new docs all the time. So don’t get to attached to the vet you like. The being said, they are reasonably priced and have an excellent surgery record for our dogs and cats. I enjoy the time money spent here has given me with my animals. I only with it felt more like a family clinic than a business that pushes sales.

We'll be back!
Dr. Abbott, Dana, Debbie, and another worker (whose name I did not catch) were all superior in the level of care they provided for my precious dog's ear infection.
From the moment I first called to squeeze in an emergency visit to when they called me back to check on us (WHAT?! 🤯😃) - they took excellent care of us both.
We DID have to wait quite a long time to be seen when we came in for our appointment. However, both Dana and Dr. Abbott profusely apologized for the wait and promised that it had been an abnormally crazy day from hell at the clinic.
I wasn't really buying
