Over fifty years ago, Southland Veterinary Hospital first opened its doors on Southland Drive as Del Tor Veterinary Clinic. In 1996, Dr. Millie Hardigree and Dr. Lisa Williams acquired the hospital and since then have welcomed Dr. Malinda Ferrell to the Southland Veterinary team. Southland Veterinary Hospital is a full service veterinary facility that provides care for both dogs and cats.
Have taken both our dogs here their entire lives and will never go elsewhere. Our lab required reconstructive knee surgery after an accident on some steps, and these wonderful ladies did not only the surgery (which was great and well priced ) but provided all the follow up care too. They provide grooming services, boarding, spaying/neutering, anal-gland expulsion, and top of the line services like laser-guided arthritis treatments.
Below are resources and contact information to help us partner with you to care for your pet. We have taken our dogs here for over 5 years, from puppy shots to put having them euthanatized. They are the best in all situations. If you are not considering Southland for you pets very best care you should be.
Please contact us anytime you have a question, however if your pet has an emergency you should contact the emergency hospital at 859-276-2505. We are new, and really loved our last vet in IL, so chosing one in KY was not a simple decision. Both of our dogs are very comfortable at Southland. The staff is is open, understanding, and very kind.

A formerly fantastic vet office that in the last year has reduced their level of care. Do not expect vaccine reminders, follow-up calls to appointments, or correct diagnoses. They won't work well with outside specialists and are generally disrespectful on the phone. There are lots of other vets in Lexington - this one used to be good, but there are much better ones on almost every corner.

I have always taken my dogs to Southland and will not go anywhere else. The staff is friendly and compassionate, and the doctors explain everything clearly and kindly. Wait times are always short and emergencies are handled immediately. My dog died unexpectedly two weeks ago, and the doctor and staff were incredibly patient and caring with me, my husband, and my pup. I recommend Southland Vet to everyone I know, and I’ve always heard great responses and thanks for the recommendation.

Millie is such a sweet and caring vet. She's seen my cat for her wellness exams and has even attended to my mother's dog. The dog had a cyst on her paw that her current vet was unwilling to remove, but Millie had no reservations and was able to remove the cyst with no complications! If she hadn't done that, then it was likely that my mother's dog would have chewed at the cyst until it burst, likely causing an infection. I appreciate all of SVH's hard work!

God help you if you're ever in an emergency, and this was the most recent clinic to have your animals records. Three months ago they made me fight bureaucracy for hours to sell me medicated cat food that keeps him alive. Today I brought my dog in with wounds from an animal attack, and the young lady on the phones made a sassy comment "I read your review online, and I just wanted to make sure you're at the right clinic." It's true! I didn't make my dog suffer needlessly while coaxing a rude young lady to transfer records to a nicer clinic. She once again held my pet

My cat rebel was attacked by a dog so i called and they were fully packed.
they still made time for my cat and treated him. It did take over 7 hours , 9am to 5:10 - however they had surgeries and, they did the best they could as far as i know.
The price was reasonable. No random fees or stupid charges like some other vets.

I took my dog to get checked because of loose and bloody stool. It was his first vet visit with me (I adopted him last summer). The staff was wonderful! They got us in and seen quickly, and Dr. Thompson was very sweet! The cost was super affordable, too! I will definitely be coming back for his regular check-ups. Thank you!

The Southland Vet Clinic staff and Dr. Hardigree have cared for my cats for over twenty years. Their love and compassion for animals is evident in everything they do. One of my cats, who has since passed on, was a wonderfully sweet animal when she was at home, but turned into "a puma with a bad attitude" whenever she visited the vet. Even with her, they were patient, understanding and kind.

My pup had his annual check up over the Christmas holiday, while convenience was the main motivator of switching to SVH we were very satisfied with the care they gave to him. They sent us home with a helpful tote that had all of his paperwork organized so I would be caught up with everything they had discussed. The goal is to not have to head to the Vet but once a year for annual shots so we can not speak to any of the other services they offer but if you live around the area check it out :)
