I had a wonderful Swedish massage at Illa. I hadn't heard of this spa so wasn't sure what to expect, but I was given a gift certificate. I went in with sore muscles from various injuries and tension, and the massage therapist did an amazing job of working through the tension in a way that was both relaxing and effective.

I went in for a massage as a walk in. They charged me in advanced for one. Second they assigned a therapist to me that was ill prepared to conduct a meaningful massage. During the 60 minute massage she was on her cell
Phone the entire time. She left the room on two occasions for about 5-10 minutes each time.
I will never go again, nor would I recommend this spa.

We got a groupon price for a 60min massage. Had to reschedule it since it has to be booked 1week in advance. They are not as good as we are expecting it to be. The girl in the front desk was the one who did my massage and it was so bad that I ended up having more pain. Hannah the other masseuse was okay as per my cousin. I think they need to hire a more professional masseuse. This is not a good place to get a massage.

Similar Groupon voucher experience to others mentioned here. Attempted to book couples massage, but only after attempting to book online, emailing, and calling, was told they were only honored from 11am-4pm M-F. This information was not on Groupon or their website. Would not have purchased if that information was provided ahead of time. Would not recommend purchasing Groupon for this business.

Can I give less than one star? My boyfriend bought a voucher for a couples massage that took close to a month for them to try to honor. I called on several occasions when I wasn’t able to book online. and when I spoke to the lady at the front desk she was extremely rude and hung up on me and told me that it wasn’t her fault that their computer didn’t honor our voucher, not to mention the “death in the family“ excuse for not honoring our massage.

I had been here years ago on a Groupon and the facility was fine and the massage was decent. I came back on Classpass credits and this spa has gone downhill. First I waited outside 5 minutes to be let in after 2 unanswered phone calls. Then I waited another 15 minutes for my massage- the masseuse was also the receptionist. I paid for a Swedish massage but received a Signature massage which is 1 hour of having an elbow jabbed into your back. I left with tons of knots still in my shoulders despite asking the masseuse to focus on that area.
To top it off, I have SCRATCH MARKS all up my thigh

I purchased a Groupon and reserved an appointment online. Their online system was impossible to understand. Then after my massage, they charged me full price and refused to accept the Groupon. So I paid double for an average-at-best massage.
I had already paid for the Groupon and I gave the owner a chance to correct the issue and refund the difference between the Groupon price and the full price they charged me, but she rudely refused. This place is a complete scam.
Also, there are flies EVERYWHERE.

First time I've read the Yelp reviews here, which are really surprising. (I'm also noticing a lot of new accounts with just one or two reviews...) I found Illa through Groupon like many others, but have since then booked through packages I've purchased at the Spa. I use their website to do all bookings and my packages are noted in the system. It also allows me to book for other family members. The process is pretty straightforward and they text you when confirmed for your time. I've only had one cancellation, which they said was for water outage in the neighborhood- understandable

It felt clean and we were the only people there which was nice. I really liked the way he kept asking consent when touching different areas. I think I was hoping for a more intensive foot massage since we paid full price for the full body and a groupon for Foot Reflexology. I feel like they kind of held back on the foot reflexology part of the deal 🤔

The situation started off rocky as I too had some issues redeeming a Groupon. Finally got my appt scheduled, and the massage was amazing! We got the couples massage and left feeling loose and rejuvenated. I would definitely return. Only giving 4 stars because of the Groupon issues and inconvenience at first, otherwise it would've been 5.

The stars are all for the massage, as the massage therapist was great. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the front desk and hostile phone staff. I had booked my appointment via ClassPass and the woman I spoke with made me feel like an inferior and less deserving customer for suggesting any kind of accomodation. The woman that worked the phone and the one behind the front desk both gave me conflicting information and when I pointed this out for further clarification, I was literally cut off and yelled at for a length of time by. This place has the worst and rudest customer service of any business I've ever spent money at. If you purchased a Groupon, don't bother trying to use it, as they will devise a way to screw you out of its value, or alternatively allow you to redeem it only after reprimanding you about unwritten scheduling rules.
If you're looking for a massage, I would recommend any place in Washington D.C. other than this one.

Sounds sufficient to communicate that I have a Groupon, right? Nope.

To be honest - We were a bit worried about coming here for a massage because the online reviews are not great (mostly due to payment issues) -- but the price of an hour massage was so good that we could not resist trying.
Overall, we were pleased with the service - the check-in process was quick/friendly, facilities were clean and masseuses were very friendly. Was it the best massage ever? No. But it was certainly good and value was great. We've been back multiple times since.
