ASME Professional Sections provide an avenue for all members to connect at the local level. Sections augment and further Society-level programs and activities, including professional development programs, networking opportunities, and communicating the excitement of engineering through awards, recognitions and other activities.
ASME supports and advances the field of engineering through education, from K-12 to university-level, Early Career Engineering programs, and Global programs. In addition, the ASME Foundation provides support for ASME programs, scholarships, awards and honors. We believe engineering drives human progress, and today, more than ever, communities need engineering.
ASME serves a wide-ranging engineering community through quality learning, the development of codes and standards, certifications, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach. ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges.
Each year, the ASME Committee on Honors confers awards to over 65 individuals, recognizing meritorious contributions to engineering. The process begins with screenings by the General Awards Committee and a series of special award committees, with approval by the Committee on Honors and the Board of Governors.
ASME Medal, established in 1920, is the highest award that the Society can bestow and is to recognize 'eminently distinguished engineering achievement.' The Adaptive Structures and Material Systems Award recognizes significant contributions to the sciences and technologies associated with adaptive structures and/or materials systems.
