Interpretation of family and medical histories to assess the chance of disease occurrence or recurrence. Genetic counselors are members of a health care team, providing information and support to individuals who have, or are at-risk for, an inherited condition, including hereditary cancer.

They identify individuals/families at-risk, analyze inheritance patterns, interpret information about genetic disorders, assess risk of occurrence/recurrence, and review management options with the individual or family.Genetic counselors work with clients to help them make decisions about how to manage their healthcare based on genetic risks.

Totally unhelpful. Would not help my daughter because she is not 18 even though she will be 18 in three months. Said that she wouldn't do any testing unless my daughter was having a medical problem. Kind of crazy because the medical problem that would be caused by this often kills you. I really hope that my daughter doesn't die from an inherited genetic condition which SHE would like to get tested for before someone will talk with us. Crazy to me that you can't get some simple blood tests even if you're willing to pay for them because of all the kooky doctors in this town.
