General dentistry is the branch of dentistry that is involved with your overall dental health. When you need a procedure, such as getting a filling or pulling a tooth, you go to a general dentist. The emphasis of general dentistry is on preventive care, as well as restorative procedures. Preventive procedures include bi-yearly dental checkups and teeth cleanings.
White fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings or composite resin, are dental fillings whose appearance is similar to that of natural teeth. They are used when you still want your teeth to look as natural as possible even after a cavity is filled. Besides their use in restoring fractured and decayed teeth, white fillings are also used for cosmetic procedures such as changing the size, shape or color of teeth.
When teeth decay, your dentist will remove the decay in the teeth and fill in the void with metal or porcelain. Metal fillings are known as silver amalgam fillings. Silver amalgam fillings are made of a mix of silver, tin, zinc and copper. There are positives and negatives associated with using this type of filling.
A dental crown is a cap that is shaped like a tooth and is placed over a tooth, like a cover. The purpose of a crown is to restore the shape, size and strength of the tooth. When the crown is cemented into place it fully encases the portion of the tooth that is above the gum line. Sometimes multiple crowns are used to create a bridge to fill in a gap between teeth.

I am very disappointed with this place. Dentist is in hurry to see patients, he is jumping from this chair to other, when you ask questions, he gets mad and after procedure he leaves you with dental assistant and you really can't ask any questions because he is in hurry to jump to next patient! Awful

Excellent dental practice in the Fairfax area. I've been seeing Dr. Ngo for several years now. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and caring. In addition to regular check-ups, I've had multiple treatments here including fillings, root canal, and repairing a broken tooth, and was completely satisfied each time. Dr. Ngo and his team do a great job explaining the procedure in advance so there aren't any surprises, and they also check in with you frequently to make sure you are comfortable during a procedure. Highly recommended!

The old reviews about them inventing cavity are 100% true and they are still doing it. Told me I had 12, when I've only had one in my life. Got a second and third opinion no cavities.
Edit This place is a drill and fill as soon as they met me they decided all cavities needed to be filled. Guess what I still don't have any!

I honestly can't say enough great things about Smiles 4 Fairfax. I have always hated going to the dentist but everyone that works here goes out of their way to make sure you are 110% comfortable. Theres water and assorted teas/coffee you can drink while you wait for your appointment. The receptionist is knowledgeable about insurance coverage (I have Aetna PPO) and works quickly to check you in. There are TVs that you can watch while getting your treatment done. The dentist, I have Dr. Sara Ibrahim, sits and takes her time to explain everything to you.

I was referred over to this office by a close friend of mine. I am deathly afraid of the dentist as I have had traumatic experiences in the past. I came in for a cleaning and the hygienist was very informative and thorough throughout the whole process.
My first procedure was with Dr. Sara Ibrahim to get a cracked filling fixed. Although the procedure went a little longer than expected, she was very apologetic and explained everything every step of the way. She was aware of how scared I am of the dentist and made sure I was completely numbed before starting anything.

Dr. Ngo is the best! I've been to many dental offices and nothing compares to Dr. Ngo's care and expertise, he has a great supporting staff too. I moved last year and going to his office is a hike, but I do not mind it at all. He truly cares about his patients and takes the time to explain everything to you. Highly recommend!

The dentists here are friendly and knowledgeable and the front office staff makes billing and appointments easy. I really liked my dental hygienist Pamela as well. She was very informative and cared about the health of my teeth. The office seems to want to make sure you're healthy rather than just make money off you which I appreciate. The reason why I left my last dentist office is because it seemed all they cared about was racking up procedures to increase profits.

Not a huge fan. I went back in numerous times due to a lingering sinus infection and nauseating teeth aches, and they simply kept prescribing weak painkillers that didn't do anything. They blamed my nighttime grinding and clinching during workouts to my sinus issues. In Seattle, it took just ONE visit for a dentist to diagnose the issue and recommend extractions, which fixed the issue immediately. This guy is really sociable and high energy, but I can't help but feel that they kept me coming back to reap profits without looking deeper into it.

As a busy mom, when I was first searching for a dentist in the Fairfax area, finding a dentist that worked with children and adults was paramount. I found Dr. Ngo years ago on yelp and have been a patient of his ever since. He, and his team, are quite simply the best dental team in this area.
His office is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. I'm always greeted by my first name upon arrival and his waiting area offers an array of drinks and small toys for children to play with. Speaking of waiting, I've never waited long to be seen for an appointment, which is VERY much appreciated

As always, you get what you paid for. I switched from a dentist that's way cheaper than Smiles 4 Fairfax, it gets the job done and fixed whatever that's wrong at the time. No prevention care advice given, no suggestions, in and out.

I was a patient with Dr. Ngo for about two years (2012 to 2013) before I decided to switch practice. While I agree with the other Yelpers about Dr. Ngo and his staff being nice and personable, my experience with the treatment he recommended was awful. I also learned the hard way that Dr. Ngo recommended unnecessary treatment for me that affected my bite permanently which also contributed to my TMJ issues which I have been suffering from since after he touched my teeth.

I had a cleaning today and Suzi was excellent. You can tell people are enjoying their job in that office. Very genuine people. Dr. Ngo is excellent. I will get some crown work done by Dr.Ngo. Waxing,PowerPoint are crystal clear. He really loves what he does. I just wanted to give a gratitude to everyone individually in that office from Dr.Ngo to front desk ladies.

Just moved to the Fairfax Fair Lakes area and selected this dentistry office due to the high yelp reviews and perfect location, and I couldn't be happier. The reviews are spot on, they're my favorite dentistry experience so far.
The Doc is younger (which I prefer), and has a lot of current gen medical school knowledge, he's courteous and gives you a LOT of his time. This place is very expensive: hence the 4 stars.
However, it is amazing!!! The doctors there are wonderful, caring, and very knowledgeable. They will actually remember you and things about you when you go back after your first visit. They are genuine and kind, gentle, and understanding of your pain or needs.
They also accommodate you on the schedule the best way they can. I would recommend to call 1-2 weeks ahead to get your appointment. Waiting time isn't very long at all. They actually do respect your appointment time unlike other offices. They are great and I would highly recommend

This is definitely the best dentist I have ever met. Not only does he do good work, it is obvious he cares about his patients.
I just recently had a wisdom tooth taken out by Dr. Ngo. Before I knew it, the tooth was out. I didn't even know he had gotten started. A look to the left, and the tooth was already on the tray. Impressive.

Dr. Ngo is the best VA has to offer. If only 'Gentle Dental' hadn't been taken already, the trade name would've fit this practice like a glove.
[ATMOSPHERE] : Unlike other dental offices that make you feel like you're in a Home Depot, all the drilling noises and all, this office sets a calm environment. Here: enjoy yourself a back massage in the massage chairs and t.v. individually equipped at each station. Don't like the bright light from the lamp? Don't worry, they have sunglasses for that.
