Dr. Jim Mason grew up in Gloucester, Virginia and Newport News, attending Peninsular Catholic High School in Newport News. He then studied physics during his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. During his undergraduate studies he became interested in piloting, along with medicine & dentistry.
Upon graduation, he became an active duty officer in the Air Force and began his studies at Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Dr. Jim was the Chief Resident while getting his Advanced Education in General Dentistry Certificate. It is during this time that he became interested in Pediatrics.

Services
This includes proper brushing, flossing and eating habits, ideal fluoride levels and the use of pit and fissure sealants. We strive to provide a fun, educational environment whose children learn about the importance of good dental hygiene. This includes children's fillings, crowns and prosthesis, including treatment of the often devastating nursing bottle decay.
A pediatric dentist, like Dr. Jim, has an extra two years of specialized training after dental school and is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, pre-teens, and teenagers all need different approaches in dealing with behavior, guiding their growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems.

Dr. Mason and his staff are incredible. I can’t imagine taking my kids anywhere else, and I drive to his office from Savannah! He revised my daughter’s lip and tongue tie. The follow up after her procedure has been heartwarming. The office itself couldn’t be a better fit for a pediatric dentist, with arcade games in the waiting room- just to name one, and the therapy dog, River, made my son’s day! Top notch care with a place kids are excited to go!

Hands down the best place to take your children for dental care! My son was very scared about having his 1st dental procedure other than cleanings done. Dr Mason and the great staff at Adventure Pediatric Dentistry made sure he physically wasn’t in pain but also did a phenomenal job of calming his emotions by joking and reassuring him constantly!

This place was recommended to us by a friend and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else! My son was really scared of the dentist after his last visit somewhere else. He was dreading his appointment all… day but was so excited when he walked in and saw the game room and therapy dog. He even found his name written on their welcome sign! They were so sweet and talked him through everything. They had TVs above the chairs for them to watch while they cleaned their teeth. He even got a balloon and toy when we left. Now he is asking when he gets to go back 😂.

We cannot say enough good about our experience! Every person we came into contact with went above and beyond to make our kids feel secure and cared for. Dr. Mason met both of my kids right where they are and treated them so specifically to who they are. The therapy dog was the cherry on top for us as it gave my anxious kiddos something to focus on. They actually cried when they realized they have to wait 6 months to go back! We are so grateful to have found Adventure to care for our kids!

We came to Dr. Mason for a 2nd opinion and we are so glad we did! His staff is amazing and so friendly! The hygienists and his demeanor to My daughter was so great. They spoke to her as a person and made sure… she felt comfortable before just giving commands and shoving tools in her mouth. Previously she has been so scared to go to the dentist but today ran so much smoother because of Dr. Mason and his amazing and wonderful staff! River, their therapy dog, helped a lot too! Highly recommend!

I can not recommend this place enough. They're incredibly patient and do really well with toddlers who are screaming and not doing well. They're also very fast and accomodating. I've had two mishaps on my part that they didn't hesitate to work with (carsick toddler, and showed up for an appointment on the wrong day). Seriously, wish we could pack them up and move them with us when it's time for us to go to the next duty station.
Plus, they have a dog and that stops my daughter from crying at the end of the appointment every time! (They always ask if it's okay to let the dog come over.)

Amazing pediatric dentist! Highly, highly recommend. Our kids loved River, the unbelievably sweet clinic therapy dog, who calmed them both tremendously. The staff was attentive, professional, and super friendly from beginning to end. The dentist, Dr. Mason, was honest and straightforward and doesn’t push braces on kids at such a young age like so many other dentists are unfortunately doing these days. Better to wait and pay for braces only once instead of getting them on too early and paying for braces twice. Great place! So glad we found them!

Dr. Mason and his hygienists are the best! My 5 year old daughter has zero issue going to the dentist because they make it so fun/interesting for her! It was my 18mo twins' first visit, and while they were skeptical, they let them clean and floss and have the exam also!! Plus, River is so good with the kiddos🐕 😁

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Mason and his staff. Adventure Pediatric has been my son's first dental experience and I plan on it being his only as long as we can. Every single time we go we are greeted by the front staff and feel so welcomed. They have a cute little board where they write the names of all the patients of the day (you really feel special and important here). The dental assistants are very kind, caring and patient NEVER have my son or I felt uncomfortable, even when/if he has a fit. Dr. Mason is AMAZING with kids, and adults even! OUTSTANDING. We have lived in many places as a military family. This practice is by far the best we've been. The entire team was kind, patient, and welcoming. Our youngest has some sensory needs and the staff not only was compassionate about his needs, they actually did everything possible to comfort and accommodate him. Bonus: They even have a therepy dog! Dr. Mason was phenomenal with both kids, especially our little guy. We cannot recommend them enough!
