When I graduated from George Mason University in May of 1979 I was not sure what I was going to do. Should I go get my Masters degree or use my Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and become a CPA. Not sure what to to do, I started playing men's softball in the meantime, makes sense right. Well the guy who was sponsoring the team was the controller of a large local residential sales company.
Government contractors have a whole different set of accounting standards to follow and that makes for more interesting work. We provide compiled and reviewed financial statements for these entities. We also assist with the preparation of their overhead rates which is an integral part of their operation.
The hospitality industry provides for very interesting work. As these businesses are providing enviroments and services to their customers that make their life more comfortable and enjoyable. So these businesses can be more fun to work for, say as compared to a scientific not-for-profit. We currently work with two wineries in the area and provide both with accounting and tax services.
Seeing your clients actually build and improve permanent structures is very rewarding. To see an empty piece of ground developed and a structure built on it, is exciting. We have worked with residentail home builders, commercial builders and specialty trade contractors. We provide monthly and annual accounting services and a complete array of tax services to these different businesses.
