When a person dies in Illinois and does not have an estate plan, which may be made up of a will and trusts, the deceased estate must often go through the probate process in order for beneficiaries to receive their inheritance or other sentimental items bequeathed to them. An executor, also known as a personal representative, handles probate on behalf of the estate.
Planning for the future with an estate planning attorney provides peace of mind that you and your family will be taken care of no matter what may happen down the line. Having a comprehensive and effective estate plan in place is essential whether or not you have extensive assets. In fact, everyone should have an estate plan, particularly those who have dependents in their care.
