Our first time at this eating establishment. Slightly disappointed. Was expecting a sit down, waiter/waitress environment with a larger menu selection. I had the taco salad. The shell was overcooked and it was mostly lettuce. Very little meat. Hubby had nachos extreme and was underwhelmed by those as well. Very thin chips that got soggy before we got our food to the table. Probably wouldn't return to this establishment.

Skip if you want real Mexican food. This stuff is ok if you're so hungry you can't wait to find another place, but not worth the money ($15/person average including your drink). You could make the same thing at home in an Ortega taco kit or with any store bought "Mexican" items. If you've never had real Mexican food aside from Taco Bell (which I prefer over this place) or Taco Johns you will not know the difference.

I tried the lunch buffet on 7/31/18. Roughly $10.75, with tax, got me an all-you-can-eat buffet and soft drink.
The good: The chips were plentiful and good; the salsa (hot sauce) was actually very good and totally devoid of cilantro, which is a huge bonus (I despise cilantro).
The not-so-good: The buffet selection was kind of scant. For main course food, there were taco fixings (so-so), little burritos (south of "meh"), enchilada casserole (so-so), and rice & beans.
The bottom line: well, the chips and hot sauce were good. Would I ever do the buffet again? No. Would

I remember coming here as a kid, so I was hoping to enjoy some pleasantly nostalgic, innoffensive Tex-Mex. Sadly it did not live up to my memory. I'm not sure if they've gone down in quality or if I just had low standards as a child or both.
I had the burrito grande. Ground beef was overly salted, cheese was more texture than taste despite having quite a bit of cheese in it. Smothered in red enchilada sauce as advertised, which was bland.
Boyfriend had hardshell tacos and said the shells where too thin and got too soft. He also mentioned the cheese being tasteless. He got potato pesos

I enjoy good Mexican food and let me tell you that this place is not good Mexican food. I've been here twice, and that is enough for me. I had the chicken enchilada's and they weren't the worst, but the sauce on them was not my cup of tea. Now, my personal preference, I do not like red enchilada sauce on my Mexican, and that is what they have. My husband enjoys that particular sauce, and he really likes this place. Myself, not so much. It's to saucy and has a funny taste, in my opinion. The rice is soggy and pretty flavorless and bland. The beans are alright and their salsa

It boggles my mind that Ricardo's receives anything beyond a single star.
The food is extremely flavorless americanized garbage, soggy flour tortillas, all toppings are fresh from a can.
The interior looks like it was decorated in 92(about the last time it was cleaned).
Anyone that reviews beyond one star grew up eating this and has no clue what real mexican food can taste like. Try El Rodeo or Fresh Salsa at the mall.

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN NORFOLK!!! The margaritas are the best in town.. I always get a strawberry mango one :) tons of food and it's all delicious! Super taco dinner is my favorite. The owners are super friendly and will take great care of you. Every time I'm in Norfolk I go there. It's well worth it!

Let me start by saying, I have good memories of Ricardo's from years ago.
I went there to use a free-in-the-mail $10-off coupon, dine in only.
The back bar has a more extensive menu than the front area.
I tried the steak fajitas:
-they were obviously leftover, microwaved (not hot and came out in about two minutes), and covered in a packaged Mexican (?) sauce.
-the guacamole was at least a few days old.
I tipped well because of the coupon, and feel buyers remorse for going--even with the $10 off.
You'd be better off going to Tienda Leon's on Main Street (the shrimp nachos with

Ricardos is a little slice of heavenly Mexican/American food on earth. Oh boy do I love this stuff. I love it so much I bring bags of refried beans back with me to Chicago. And I am not joking. Potato pesos, and burrito grandes, and nachos oh my! This place has it all. Is it overly "authentic" you ask? Well to that I say define "authentic." Ricarods is authentic in its own Ricardo-y way. And as for the owner, Judy, well it doesn't get much better than her, she's as nice as they come. Come to this place or forever have a burrito shaped hole in your heart.

Just say no to Ricardo's. Very, very bad Mexican food. Norfolk actually has some pretty great Mexican restaurants, so try Tienda Leon (the best) or El Mezcal (not as great as Leon's but SO much better than this crap). Ricardo's is worse than Taco Bell, Taco John's or Amigo's. Terrible food, terrible service, and just not worth your time.
