After a family get together we decided to grab some drinks late night at James Joyce, what a terrible idea that was. The bouncer at the front door began giving us problems as soon as we arrived. He looked me up and down with a dirty look and made me take off my shoes and jacket and patted me down as if I was checking into prison. He then denied me from entering because he didn't think my ID was real, it was... I am 25 years old. I even showed him multiple forms of ID but he just wouldn't let me in. I proceeded to walk around to the back door where I just walked right in (what tight security

The two times I was here I left very disappointed. The food is below average and I expected a lot more from such a popular area. Other restaurants nearby blow this place out of the water.

I came here my 2nd time and I was with 10 people or so, and it was a Friday night around 8:30pm. I was told half of us aren't allowed in because of our shoes and clothing. The dress code was beyond ridiculous. The bouncers were insanely rude and to lose hundreds of dollars of business over the type of shoes my party is wearing is quite laughable. We went to another location and were welcomed regardless of

Dirty patchogue bar that thinks they’re an exclusive Manhattan club… bouncers lay their hands on women- are homophobic- and racist! There’s nothing special about this place and clearly the owners and employees have no morals or care for their customers- go somewhere else you can dance at meatball if that’s what you’re looking for. Don’t support this business. The bouncers are always trying to fight with customers over legit none sense because they think they’re tough but are actually quite pathetic with a false sense of entitlement

Short bouncer with the patchy beard definitely let's the "power" of being a bouncer at a subpar bar on Long Island get to his head. Didn't let my friend in because his pull over had a hood. Then when we left and came back with a jacket for him, he didn't let me in because my jeans had 3 rips in them after I had gotten in the first time. Disappointing.

Respectfully, not only is your dress code a joke so is your staff and upper management. The only reason you even survive staying open is because of the 21 year olds that like to party on a Saturday night. I will never be coming here again after witnessing your blonde manager screaming in someone's face over a rain jacket. It speaks volumes in the level of class James Joyce has. Your establishment could be at the same high level as very successfully restaurants on Main Street (like Rhum and Tap Room) but I guess that's why you guys don't actually have a space on a Main Street.

Don't pay in big bills the bartenders will steal your money. The very first round I bought I paid with a $100 bill and the bartender pretended she never served me as soon as I got the drinks and then threatened to call the bouncer while my money was sticking out of her pocket. This has happened to multiple people and the bartenders will continue to do it knowing if you ask for your money back they can just call the bouncers to kick you out.

Delicious!

Dined here Wednesday night. It was shockingly empty. I've visited here during their busiest bar hours before the pandemic, so it was very eerie to see it so quiet.

For starters, my fiancé and I ordered fried calamari which was very good. Wish the portion was a little bit bigger if I could pick on something.

For entrees, I ordered chicken fingers and fries and my fiancé ordered the mac and cheese. My dish was great. Irish restaurants always have delicious fries - not sure why! My fiancé enjoyed his meal and loved the crackers they threw onto the top of the mac and cheese.

Holy mother of goodness. Drinks and food were fantastic. Even before your meal was in front of your eyes, you could sense the deep dish deliciousness in the air while the beautiful waitress brings you your bavarian pretzel. Service

It would have spent less ink and time if their "dress code" wasn't trying to beat around the bush. It's like the assignment was "tell me you mean "whites only," without telling me you mean "whites only". "

You're not welcomed here. Don't waste your time. They have a ridiculous dress code listed on the door that clearly discriminates certain types of people. Spend your money elsewhere.

I'm sorry but what is with the dress code? No white tee shirts? Boots? No excessive jewelry???
The whole list is kind of ridiculous. It seems obvious the type of people they would like to keep out and it's sad

The dress code at this restaurant is sickening and unacceptable! This should not be tolerated in the community and the owner should take this down at once. Shame on you, James Joyce management! There are plenty of great places in the town of patchogue
, don't waste your money to support this unacceptable behavior. #BLM

I've came out from the city and you are supposed to be suited up and you're not allowed to do anything from there! The manager is disrespectful and conman was "oh hmm just to let you know you can't come in with that on." Now this is my fir time being in the city with people that aren't black and she single me out with the same young man that had the same thing on. Black sweater white shirt and pumas pants on. I don't understand why the manager did this but she's being racist and disrespectful. Don't go there for this very reason. If you're not her

Great food great drinks. Staff was ok(not really friendly) music was great on a Saturday night. Glad I got to hear Dj Decoy spin. Young crowd and Place gets pretty crowded after 11 and it's hard to get a drink. Overall had a good time with friends and family.

Great drinks, great vibe. However the bouncer Thursday night was rude. First off I understand no hat policy which I will abide by. However he allowed someone else in with a hat and was clearly friendly with him. So when I noticed he didn't mind his hat I put mine on and immediately he yelled at me to take mine off. All I ask is for consistency in rules not pick and choose. It is very rude. When I made a comment he smiled and laughed. Pretty disgusting and unprofessional in my opinion.

I went here just for dessert and ordered the warm apple cobbler with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. But, this place is huge, great place to eat and I will plan on going back for lunch or dinner. There is on street parking and a town parking lot close. Bathrooms are very clean. The staff are very professional and friendly.

I have been here a few times and the food has always been pretty good. However last night the steak was full of hard grizzle and the food was not very hot. To top it off, the live music was way too loud, more like a concert instead of a restaurant.

This place is nasty after 7 pm. If you go with young children leave before the loonies arrive. The staff isn't very caring of the language and the wait for food is longer than most places. The food isn't bad but for the price your being charged it should be better!
Avoid this place on Fridays and Saturdays as it gets out of control and very loud and over crowded!

A néw local staple. Pre covid it's a restaurant during the day and a hot trendy club at night where the lines would be down the block. Great atmosphere. This use to be the original building where jays fabrics was. I use to go their with my grandma who was a seamstress..... it's a nice Irish pub with a large selection of Irish fair.. I finally had the scotch egg and it was great. The owner was so kind to come out and explain how it was made!!

Now that dine in options are opening back up, couldn't wait to go back to James Joyce. I love the open airy concept. The staff was friendly and attentive. Everything was clean and we'll spaced for social distancing. The food was ah-maze-zing! Please try the prime rib sando, I am still salivating over it five days later ...

I understand we're in odd times with all that's going on, but that's no excuse for charging for items not ordered.

Went to James Joyce last Saturday night. Got there around 11PM, and walked right in. Place was more then half empty, but we decided to stay anyways. Ordered a few grilled cheeses, and a whole bunch of drinks.

Service was non existent, as the waiter seemed more concerned about hanging out with his friends who came to visit him as opposed to actually working. Took almost an hour for two grilled cheeses to come out, and they were ice cold?

These weren't even the
