Emotional difficulties in children are very common. Some moodiness, anxiety and social/school difficulties are expected as kids grow and develop. These challenges may require a change in perspective or learning a new skill. Often you can offer sensitive support and patience and they can work through it.
Developmentally, adolescence is a clunky time for everyone - teenagers and parents alike. Everything can feel out of sync and the pieces aren't lining up in ways that make sense. It can seem like all of the sudden kids are fully exposed to complicated, dangerous and precarious experiences and their tether to you is much longer than it used to be.
You're experiencing unexpected mood swings or bouts of anxiety or depression that are difficult to shake. I find this quote on family essentials counseling’s website a bit interesting…my 11 year old was taken off the schedule because of some missed appointments. The most recent because we’re waiting on Covid test results. The appointments were not canceled on a whim, they were given at least a weeks advanced notice if not 2 weeks in advance. My child has an active schedule who doesn’t always know how to verbalize and understand what they’re feeling, hence some counseling. I feel bad that because of some planned missed dates and out of respect for the community on not putting them at risk

Family Essentials counseling is a warm, welcoming and clean business. The soothing sounds in the lobby and hallways help to create an ambience of peace and comfort. Every office has its own feeling of warmth and welcome. I am very proud to be able to work with the owners to keep a clean and sterile environment.
