I live a two minute walk from Maya and I'm ashamed it took me this long to try it out. My friends and I had a GNO here on a Friday night to celebrate a new chapter in our lives. We had a very delicious, and wonderful meal.
I had the bbq pork ribs which were very tender where the meat would come off right the bone. They were a little on the drier side, but my solution was to order some bbq sauce for the side.

To drink I started off with a the espresso martini which I would go again just for that. It's a dessert cocktail so I kind of did it reverse. For my second drink, I wanted to change

I was invited to dinner at Maya by some friends. I looked at the menu and it seemed limited but also not the type of food I would normally choose. So I asked my party what they recommend and ordered.
Well it was delicious!! I got the oysters (yum), and one person got the duck and another the shrimp and grits. And Everyone enjoyed their meal!!! We left nothing on our plates. Then some of us got the martinis for desert-delicious!!!
Highly recommend!!

Highly recommend sitting at the bar. The pimento cheese fritters and fried oysters were great. Ted, the bartender, was super friendly and accommodating. The happy hour deals are clutch. The ribs were falling off the bone. Plus, there were some cool regulars there to guide us on our journey

While walking by Maya on my way back to the hotel, after dinner, I saw a lot of people in here and the vibe looked fun, so I stopped in to check out their cocktail menu... They really do have an interesting cocktail menu! I heard their food is pretty good too.
I opted for the White Fly and had it made with Tito's instead of gin and it came out perfect! Tasted like it was supposed to be made that way!!
Service was decent and quick. The place looks nice, like someplace I'd like to dine at sometime. I'll be back!

My group waited 2 hours for our food. Literally two hours, no exaggeration. The food was also ice cold when we got it. We asked for a fresh plate, and they stated they were all out of what we were requesting. Our waitress was wonderful, and we could tell they were doing their best, but after two hours to receive cold food is unacceptable. They also only offered to comp 10 %, which is about the price of sales tax. Our bill was extremely expensive so for the mediocre cold food.

It was okay. We started with the pimento cheese fritters which were good, but we only received 3 of the them. I had the bbq pork ribs which tasted fine but were a bit dry. My husband got the mushroom risotto and it actually tasted like nothing. The sides were very good. Wouldn’t go back due to the just meh food and price point.

Good food variety and quality. Slower than normal service. We had reservation for dinner outside, but upon arrival were told no seating was available outs, all reserved had been filled.

The pimento cheese fritter appetizer was AWESOME. But unfortunately the rest of the menu was just decent. The hen was cooked well, but the dry rub really was overdone and absorbed most of the flavor.

Service could've been better. After 20 minutes we realized we hadn't even had our orders taken. Particularly on a hot muggy day when there was only seating outside, wasting time like this is not ideal. We also were sat at a table next to a huge fan, which made conversation difficult.

I may patronize this establishment again, as the experience wasn't bad enough to warrant lower stars

Nice atmosphere, great waitstaff. Food.? Fish was dry, cornbread was so dry I had to put it in my collard greens. And the collard greens were healthy. Not ones made with a ham hock. Guess you can say I am use to a certain type of corn bread and collard greens. We started with the fried green tomatoes. Nothing worth mentioning.

Our first impression was a little concerning since they were already fully booked for the night and we didn't have reservations. But the staff was great and found us a spot in the bar area.

Service from Micheal C was great. He took great care of us on what looked like a busy night.

The drinks were great. I had a couple Smokey the Bee and my gf had a mango margarita. These were creative and delicious drinks. Michael was very good about making sure we had more if we wanted, but not being pushy!

But you are thinking about the food. We had baby back ribs, trout, and cobia. While plating might

Let me just say in the beginning why I only gave 3 stars. I found the fish to be just OK, my macaroni and cheese was no better than boxed macaroni and cheese, and the collard greens were nothing to write home about; over boiled in water with not much flavor. Will all that being said, there are still quite a few good points and that follows in my review!

This was our first time at Maya ! Very nice and with what I call a rustic look inside. The food was very tasty. IfvI had something bad to say it would be they don't offer a side salad with there meals . Now you can substitute both sides with a salad but I personally like a salad as one of my sides . The Brussel sprouts were Awesome.

This is Southern food done very well in the heart of Charlottesville downtown.

1. Drinks: Fantastic cocktails with a great selection of spicy, sweet, strong, and bitter cocktails. Both my SO and I really enjoyed our drinks!

2. Food: Awesome takes on classic Southern food. Fried oysters were nice and crispy with not too much brine and/or salitness. I really enjoyed the gumbo, which had a great smokiness and richness to it without being too overbearing. Additionally, the sides were nothing short of excellent. Really liked the fresh homemade cornbread and the mashed potatoes were heavenly.

Awesome

This is my go to restaurant for dinner when I’m back in town for a weekend trip over the years. Once our order came out wrong and the ribs were a little over cooked but I haven’t had any problems of late. Most recently, this weekend I came in for the first time since covid and I was pleased with the increased safety measures and the menu options. While my favorite was not offered due to the pandemic (friend catfish), the other options were just as good. I enjoyed the chicken fried chicken and my girlfriend liked her salmon dish. The peach bourbon drink was also were good and refreshing.

Visited last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a fantastic experience. Outdoor dining only right now during the COVID-19 pandemic under a covered pop-up tent with lights. There's no heat, but the weather was pleasant so that was OK. Just keep this in mind as the temps get cooler!

The cocktail menu is extensive, I'll have to remember to try something next time I'm there since I opted to just have wine but my husband had a mule and he said it was great.

Ordered pimento cheese fritters based on all the positive reviews and WOW those were awesome! I also love fried

Mediocre food. Picked up a couple of appetizers (fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese fritters) and an entree (fried chicken without the ham gravy with biscuit and grits) for take-out. Restaurant has outdoor seating and it looked very busy.

The appetizers are overpriced at $10 for 3 slices of tomato and $10 for 3 fritters. Also, they desperately needed the side sauces they came with. Mostly tasted the salty fried breading.

The fried chicken was dry! Good seasoning but totally dry. Seems like another dish that was supposed to rely on a sauce to be rescued--since we didn't want the red

We had a very delicious, amazing, and socially distanced meal tonight for our anniversary. They have great protocols in place to make you feel safe during this time that we are in, and the food and service were excellent as usual. Make sure to get the fried green tomatoes, and definitely save room for the peanut butter fluff pie!

If you're looking for a splurge curbside takeout dinner and craving Southern food, Maya is worth it. The pimento cheese fritters are amazing - fried cheese balls with creamy center and comes with a tasty red pepper jelly for a blend of sweet and salty. They offer both single dinner and family style options - we've only done single dinners which come with your choice of 2 sides. Even though it's $22-27/entree, you will definitely be stuffed or have leftovers with the amount of food. I've enjoyed the hanger steak previously for in-person dining - consistently cooked at the right

Decent outdoor dining during COVID where reservations are generally required and a steady flow of people during dinner hours keep servers busy. The bar serves good cocktails, their specialties seemed to lean towards gin and vodka but they will make whatever you want. Of note were the ribs, collards and cheese biscuits and the trout. I recommend Maya if you're in the mood for a Southern inspired meal. Save room for the Key Lime pie.

$12 Tuesdays? I don't think I can really come any other night anymore to be honest with you!

The deal is simply hard to beat - for 12 buckaroos, you get a choice of main protein (fish, ribs, steak, pulled pork, etc.) and TWO sides. I opted for the steak with mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. I wasn't asked how I wanted the steak, but thankfully it came out medium rare. The mac and cheese was a little on the dry side, but still quite tasty. Sweet tater fries were crispy and delish!

The space is a fun combo of indoor and outdoor spaces. We were seated in the side room, where

(For so long I walked or drove past Maya thinking it must be some Latin American cuisine (I guess I was thinking of Mayans?) and didn't connect with it until noticing some good reviews on Yelp.)

I love Latin American, but local-centric, Southern-inspired food will make me happy anytime. So glad I finally checked Maya out, and can't wait for the next time!

They have a nice but fairly brief drinks menu with rotating local beers, so I went for the seasonal Gose from Three Notch'd to start the meal off strong.

We started with the mushroom plate which featured some local, organic mushrooms

Visited on a Sunday without reservations. They opened at 5:00 and we were quickly seated. We had the fried chicken special and the cornbread crusted catfish.

The catfish was very good. The cornbread crust was just crispy enough without being overdone. My sides of sautéed Brussel sprouts with bacon and onion were very delicious. They were shaved and lightly seasoned. The sautéed leafy greens with shallots, lemon and pecans was perfectly cooked. My husband had the fried chicken special which was equally as good. His sides were Mac and cheese and the sautéed Brussel sprouts. He enjoyed the sprouts
