In 1933 my grandfather, Rev. A.R. Leak had a vision of opening his own funeral business after having realized that black people could not afford to bury their loved ones in a respectable manner. Our funeral business is also very well known for its involvement with the Civil Rights movement. My grandfather was great friends with Dr. King having provided limousine service for him during his time in Chicago.
If a death occurs at home or at work, you should call the county coroner and notify the next of kin to determine which funeral home/chapel should handle the arrangements for the deceased. You should not clean or otherwise modify the deceased until the officials arrive to determine cause of death. If a death occurs a hospital or nursing home facility, the staff will notify the appropriate officials.
Holding a funeral or memorial service for your loved one is a positive first step in the grieving process. Family members and friends get a chance to say their goodbyes, and at the same time, they get to share strong feelings with one another. In the days, weeks and months following the service, people continue to need others to lean on for understanding, encouragement and guidance.

They funeral home on Chicago, ave did a good job on my dad but comes to find out they lost his remains he was supposedly be buried at burr oak cemetery but he's not there he's been gone 22 years i called they funeral home i told what's going and the lady receptionist said if the death certificate states the burial then that's where he is i called burr oak cemetery they said he's not there. i don't know what steps to take to find my dad's remains

Maybe the thing that most poured salt into the wound was waiting on hold again and again and again while listening to a message on repeat that says Leak & Sons treats families with dignity and care. My experience: Repeated calls, long hold times, too busy and disorganized staff, and ultimately no response.

The customer experience was less to be desired. They made promises they could not keep and when they made mistakes they did very little to fix them. This was the first time I've had to make arrangements for a loved one and I would have expected a little more care and compassion. Might I add we were late leaving the Funeral Home for the burial because one of the staff members was late arriving to work.

My mother was my world. She had also become my daughter, as she had been bedridden for the majority of the past 10 years and I was her main caregiver. When she passed at the end of December 2020, to say I was devastated and lost would be a tremendous understatement. My Pastor recommended A.R. Leak for the funeral because of the restrictions on churches due to the plague. Mr. Spencer Leak and the entire Leak operation were top notch.
